Default My uncle from Hanover laughed at the Canadian veterans

Okay, so you don't know the difference between a service medal and a
medal for valor. Some of us do.
FWIW My father got his Distinguished Flying Medal while dropping bomb on
the Fatherland.

One of my ancestors received the Congressional Medal of Honor for his
service during the Civil War (Union). My aunt has the shotgun (rifle?--I'm
not sure) he carried. My sister and I looked up the marker for his grave
and discovered that there is a small road named for him in the cemetery.

I remember a conversation with my grandfather. He said that my
great-great-great-something uncle would never talk about the war until one
day when he came for a visit, driving a horse and buggy. On that day, he
talked and talked for several hours. It was as if he was letting it all
out. He returned home and died of natural causes about a week later. My
mother took us to look at the house where he lived. He died when my mother
was 6 years old.

Rifles were used by both sides.
