Sky had figured another one to use...irc.networkjunkies.com port 6667 She and I were chatting on Wednesday and I was there the all on my lonesome last night. We had tried another before that. I am getting pretty good at setting up the autoconnect after doing it several times in the last week. |

Let me know what you settle on and I'll try to set up Chrome's IRC extension to get to it. I've been missing the Thursday night chat sessions from back in the day when "everyone" dropped in to say hi and catch up. Please pass on a big hello to Sky. -- Good Food. Good Friends. Sky was the one who contacted me about the networkjunkies, so I will leave it to her whether to stay there or to go back to the old one, and we can post the outcome here. |

I had a real job getting rid of all the add ons ![]() ChatZilla is "A clean, easy to use and highly extensible Internet Relay Chat (IRC) client" - just one add-on, nothing more. Maybe you downloaded it from a spammy site. Try this one. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/fir...don/chatzilla/ PS: Dave, those were simple and clear instructions. Much easier than using command lines. Thanks. Now we need to settle on a chat channel. I have networkjunkies set to open automatically now, so I'm fine with that one. -- Good Food. Good Friends. Which one are you one then? I'm using Chatzilla. It's free. Mirc can be either free or pay. I don't want to deal with nag screens and I don't have any desires to do anything fancy (no admin, nuttin' honey), so I don't have any use for the full version. I've been satisfied with CZ. The only thing Mirc does that CZ doesn't is give users a heads up that you're on your way into the chat room. So what. You get there when you get there. -- Good Food. Good Friends. Good Memories. |

Not worth the effort. Did you use Chazilla or some other irc client? It worked exactly the way he said it would with CZ. There are two boxes: 1. for network 2: for channel. I even entered rec.food.cooking without the hashtag and found the correct chat room. Too much effort would be my opinion of using that stupid Mibbit thingie. Ugh. <hork, spit> -- Good Food. It should work in any irc client. After you get on that server, in the same box, enter: /join #rec.food.cooking This command will take you to the chat room, rec.food.cooking IRC is a text command line protocol. There's a lot of gui based clients, but they all fall back on the same command line interface (CLI) commands. Any irc command begins with a forward slash, then a space, then the objective. /server servername .....will take you to any server you enter. /join #channelname .....will take you to any room you desire, after you've logged into a server. Always include the # character before the channelname. Despite all the whistles and bells in gui clients, it all comes back to a few basic commands. /server and /join should get you to the room (channel). O, since it appears you don't use firefox/thunderbird, I'd recommend xchat. It's more current than mirc, which is long dead. Plus, xchat is more inline with the original irc protocol. It's like newsgroups. Old, but simple, efficient, and bulletproof. |

In lower left corner should be and icon for chatzilla. Click on it. In bottom text box, enter the two commands above. Don't forget the forward slashes and the # characters. nb |
