![]() PETA’s bid for turkey memorial in Utah denied Published Saturday, May 3, 2014 | 4:21 p.m. Updated 10 minutes ago SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — An animal rights activist's request to install a roadside memorial at the site where hundreds of turkeys died in a Utah truck crash has been denied. The Utah Department of Transportation on Friday rejected the request made by Amy Meyer of Salt Lake City on behalf of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, saying it didn't meet the agency's policy standards. The memorials allow grieving families to memorialize loved ones who die in highway crashes. KSL reports (http://bit.ly/1nUb6UN ) Meyers argued the condition should be overlooked because turkeys in the factory-farming industry have no living relatives. She proposed that PETA's memorial urge people to "try vegan." A truck hauling 720 turkeys crashed April 24 on a highway northeast of Provo, killing all but about two dozen of the birds. ___ Information from: KSL-TV, http://www.ksl.com/ |

All that time and effort could be put to so much > better use. Frankly most PETA folks are nutters. Sadly the worst part is they pretend to protect animals and take them into shelters yet have a 98% kill rate. They dont tell the locals they do not have a shelter. They put them down even if healthy. I'd not mind if they were honestly telling folks they will help those not pable to pay to have a loved pet put down but that is NOT what they tell them here. Never take a dog or cat to Peta unless you want them put to sleep forever. THat is all they do. -- |

THat is all they do. Yes, I have heard about the above before. We are fortunate here in Aus because PETA don't seem to have much of a presence here. Conversely, I do not like the RSPCA here either, because they have become bureaucratic, corporate, money-hungry and frequently cause good people unnecessary (and unwarranted) problems. And, like PETA, the RSPCA is /very/ good at putting animals down. Fortunately we have alternative organisations here more deserving of support. |

There too eh? I wouldn't touch RSPCA with a bargepole! The money they take in for caring for animals is instead used widely for prosecuting people. They also put animals down. They won't get a penny of mine. > Fortunately we have alternative organisations here more deserving of > support. Agreed! There are very good alternative orgs here too, one of which I have spoken about in the past. I get my rescue dogs from them. They will never put a healthy dog down! I have been to a few of their branches and in each you can see elderly dogs which will never be rehomed, who live in comparative luxury ![]() and even armchairs to lol about on ![]() support which is willingly given. They have all the love and medical attention they need and will live out their lives in comfort. We got our latest dog from there just a few weeks ago. After the first few day we noticed she was holding up one leg. Since we had to take her back to complete a course of injections, I asked their vet to look at it. She had a ruptured cruciate ligament and because it was evident she had that problem while in their care (which was around one week, so she had it when she was taken there) they pay for all treatment on that leg for life. She has just had surgery and is now recovering well. Can you just imagine RSPCA doing any of those things???? -- http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/shop/ |

Funny, I've never thought of PETA as an animal shelter. They are animal activists, not pet babysitters. The SF SPCA is a no-kill shelter, so I guess it's completely different from your RSPCA. http://www.sfspca.org/about-us/presi...essage/no-kill -- Good Food. Good Friends. Good Memories. |

She is in pain and I am terrified she has damaged the leg. She had surgery where a cut was made into the bone and a titanium wedge inserted. The bone can grow through it given time all because it is not possible to sew together the ligament. She is looking very sorry for herself and is resting on her favourite rug. If she is not brighter tomorrow we will need to take her back to see the vet and get another x-ray to check it out. -- http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/shop/ |

Several weeks later they discovered on an online bulletin board that their cat had been found and given to a no-kill shelter in a nearby town. They called the shelter, described their cat and the shelter confirmed its distinctive meow. But they refused to give the family their cat back. They refused to let the family _adopt_ their cat back, even when the family offered to pay the adoption fee. Instead, they placed it with another person. The shelter told the press that it was the family's fault for letting their cat run, and they had absolutely no intention of telling the family where their cat was now living. |

I don't agree with it (I have an indoor only cat) but it's not up to me to judge. Sometimes indoor only cats do manage to get out. Shelters shouldn't have that sort of "power" over people who are trying to reclaim their lost cat. Jill |

That sounds like theft! How dare they refuse to give her property back to here (because leaving aside the affection, that is how it would probably be seen in law! -- http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/shop/ |
