As always, when all else fails - reboot - ![]() Somehow (don't ask me how!!!) mIRC now works with this Win8 machine - woohoo - heheheh. Sure beats using that teeny keyboard on the 10" tablet, which is better than no access, that's undeniable ![]() For an android tablet newsreader, I use(d) "PhoNews" except it would not let me post unless I purchased the 'app' (won't do that). Thank goodness I now have Thunderbird up and working on the laptop - woohoo! For an IRC android tablet (jelly bean, whatever) app/client, I used "AndroIRC", and it was a bare-bones IRC app, and it's definitely better than no connection at all. I'm just glad I finally got my mIRC client to connect now ![]() server(s) = irc.networkforjunkies.com channel = #rec.food.cooking HTH ![]() Sky, who's still working to configure this dang-fangled Win8 laptop !!! |

I still haven't bought a laptop, but will one of these days. Win7 was hard enough to set up with my old programs. Not looking forward to dealing with Win8 in that respect. :/ -- Good Food. No one knows how quickly you are typing when in chat. They don't know if you are hunting and pecking or if you are in another window doing crosswords. It can be hard to keep up if there are a lot of people all chatting at the same time. > > >> Sky, who's still working to configure this dang-fangled Win8 laptop !!! > > I still haven't bought a laptop, but will one of these days. Windows 8 is the first one that has been a major obstacle for old Windows users. However, you can work around it. Install the old programs that you like and change the default programs to those you are familiar with. Then set it up to display the desktop like the old Windows. |

I was really frustrated with Win8 because it defaulted to a bunch of programs that I was not used to and seemed not to have the functions I had come to know and love. I liked the desk top on the older versions and was not ready for a company to tell me what I am going to like better. Companies are supposed to cater to their customers, not the other way around. At any rate, once I got my old programs installed and got a desktop icon so that I could easily switch to the old way of doing things it was much easier. |

When I get a new computer, I'll buy the latest version. I have used MS Office (yuck), Open Office (OK) and Libre Office (better) but I still need some of the features in Word Perfect that the other5 programs, which pretty much mirror MS Office, so not have. -- Janet Wilder Way-the-heck-south Texas Spelling doesn't count. It's not a replacement for WP. Word Perfect does things for me like easy tables, endless formatting options and the "reveal codes" feature that I won't do without. Can't teach me any new tricks. :-) -- Janet Wilder Way-the-heck-south Texas Spelling doesn't count. Cooking does. --- This email is free from viruses and malware because avast!
