Here, every store seems to sell Bartlett, Anjou and Red Anjou. Once in a
while I will see some other variety, perhaps in organic. But I think sw pegged the pears that I bought at Costco as Forelle. Have never seen or even heard of them before. I also did not know that most of the pears in the US are grown in WA and OR. But online research told me this. We have two pear trees. The Bartlett used to produce bumper crops and it still does produce but something is wrong with it and the fruit is no longer good. I think (but am not sure) that the other tree is a Comice. Those pears are usually quite large and tasty. It used to produce a lot but last year I only got a few. The trees were probably planted in 1981 or 1982 when this house was built. Now I can't remember the year for sure. We also have two apple and one cherry. The one apple produced on one branch only for the first few years but the fruit always got sun burned and was no good. Other apple is a cooking apple. SIL told me what kind but I forgot. Made good sauce for the first few years but now the fruit is too small and not very good. If the cherry produced last year, I missed it. Have to get to those quickly before the birds do. |

How are your pear trees doing, BTW? They looked pretty last time I saw pics. Are they mature enough to have started bearing fruit? Jill |

I seem to recall a previous JB post that mentioned her husband hacking the fruit trees somewhat indiscriminately. I would also wonder, based on her kitchen skills, if she even takes care of the trees ie trimming, fertilizing, pest control but you have to admire the fact that she lives in the area where the majority of pears are grown that she can only find three varieties |
