DH just read a report about dogs to me from the newspaper:

"If a dog bites or even jumps up at a person even in your own home, you can
be prosecuted. If it injures someone you can be sent to prison for 5 years!
"

Designed especially to protect postmen it seems.

My goodness, that's harsh. I guess that top penalty is for
repeat offenders or such.

That's a problem, I've read. My brother was a mailman for a
time. He never mentioned a problem with dogs, but he was
attacked by a mockingbird.

I don't know. I guess I will have to read it myself.

That reminds me of the neighborhood cat that used to visit us from time
to time. He was usually to be found underneath a picnic table where the
resident mocking bird's dive bombing could not reach. He was a very
friendly, fat and tolerant cat and seemed to be trying for adoption but
I am a little allergic to cats.

Apparently, I'm also allergic to cats, according to tests I had done
in relation to my hay fever. I can't say I've ever noticed any
allergic reaction though... too bad if I did anyway!

LOL.

Any kind of personality trait you can name - some cats will have it. I
had dinner at a friends place last night (pork belly, yum) and they
have... well, I'm not sure - lots of cats anyway. One of them, Elle,
is as friendly and loving as you can get - yet she disappears for
months on end, preferring to live in the wild. Then, she'll just turn
up again months later, right on feed time, like nothing has happened.
She's been doing this for years. And no, she doesnt have another home
to go to, that would have come to light by now if that was the case as
there are so few people living in the region.

You would think differently if they affected you very badly. I have chronic
asthma and it really hurts me.

I have recently been reading about some cats who have two homes and get fed
in both)) In one case the owner put a note on her collar and the 'other'
owner made contact LOL

I don't have asthma, but I do have severe reactions to cats. My eyes
water, my nose goes crazy, I cough, and feel generally miserable. I can
only imagine how much worse I would feel, if I had asthma!

Aye it is such a shame, they are lovely beasts. Fortunately I don't have
the same reaction to dogs ... so all is not lost)

I have asthma too and there is nothing funny about it. That said, if
it turned out to be caused by my cat of 19 years, now dead, or my one
ferret still here, I would take drugs to deal with the problem. NO
DARN WAY would I even consider getting rid of a beloved pet, a member
of my family. I love her and she loves me and depends on my special
personal care and play. She's my baby and she will *ALWAYS* have a
nice loving home right here until the sad day that she dies.

If for some reason I became homeless (not likely), she would come with
me wherever I went.

I had some allergies for dogs and have been taking strong meds to deal with
that, but that didn't help with cats. Of course, if you already have a pet
you will do whatever it takes but I never did get a cat because I know the
problems

So...Ophy...what if you developed a severe allergy to your beloved
dog? Would you get rid of it? ;-( Or would you take extra drugs and
keep it? That dog is your baby...would you give him/her up?

If I developed a serious allergy to a pet, I would deal with the
problem until it died years later from a natural death. I just
wouldn't buy another after that.

I already said I couldn't and when I reacted to my last dog I got very
strong anithistamines which I still need today. (did I not already say
this?)

Yes! That was my first thought too, only that there is a very small
population density in this area and everyone knows each other.
Presumably someone would say something if they had a 'new' cat show
up... but you never know.

Yep, seems to be lots of bus-riding cats in the UK. The smartest had to
be the cat who rode to the fish & chip shop.

I saw a video last year or the year before. Researchers went to an
English village and put video/tracking collars on some of the (owned)
village cats. They tracked their movements and videoed what they did
when they went out at night. Even without riding the bus, some of those
cats *really* got around!

When I got my last girl I was scared because it affected me so badly, but my
doctor (a dog lover) sorted me out Not that I didn't get any reaction but
it was manageable

That sounds familiar, I think I saw that quite a few years ago.
They do get around, because occasionally people see other people's
cats near their homes around here. The distances are surprising
sometimes, tens of kilometres at times.

Hmm I explained that badly.

It was out of control and it affected me so badly I thought I would have to
get rid of my girl, but my doc brought it under control and now I can
manage it ... iyswim! I do still get a reaction but now I have the means
to bring it under control.

I don't know about that, it was my reply that wasn't right, as I did
understand you

Yep. My hay fever is also now under control, thankfully. I'm allergic
to rye grass pollen, as it turns out... which I'm surrounded with here
at home. I have a nasal spray that works well, I can even manage to
bale hay... although admittedly I am still symptomatic and also get a
touch of asthma from it, but it's tolerable.

I am pleased to hear that. It is beyond horrible when you can't
breathe When I got Blue, I was on steroids for months until they got it
under control I am managing now with two lots of antihistamine, very
occasional steroids and sometimes anti biotics.

Sigh .. the things we do for our girls )) They are worth it eh? )

Keep well
