The people behind me have a Norway spruce. I've never seen
anything like it, at first I thought the tree was on fire, there
was a wave of smoke blowing out of it. First thing that morning
I wondered if it was sick, it looked very pale. Now I know it was
pollen.

It did that with every breeze for days.

With central AC I rarely open my windows but weather permitting I use
this:

Yes, I noticed it last week too. Bright, breezy, sunny day and you
could clearly see all the pollen blowing in the wind.

Go stand in a pine forest at night with a spot light when they release
their pollen... wow. Never seen anything like it before, glad I'm not
allergic to pine pollen!

Where I live I'm susrrounded with conifers, and all sorts of pollen
producers. When doing outdoor chores I wear a paper respirator.
This one is inexpensive, comfortable, and works extremely well:

I wear this when mowing, often I wear it all day, I hardly notice it's
there

Try a paper mask, I don't think a scarf filters pollen well. This one
has a valve so when you exhale moisture doesn't collect inside the
mask and it stays cool and dry, makes it very comfortable to wear for
long periods.

That is similar to the mask I wear, and it does not fog up my protective
goggles like some of them do.
