I have at least one TV on 24/7... even when no one is home I leave it
on for the cats. I have a 55" HDTV in the bedroom, it's on all
night... sometimes I wake up to pee and I find something to watch...
at 3 AM Judge Moulion comes on for an hour, followed by Allred...
mindless entertainment puts me to sleep. At 6 AM cats insist I get
out of bed to feed them, they do not give up so there is no point to
ignore them, and then I may as well walk out to the barn to feed those
moochers too. There're two cats living in the barn, they get a can of
Friskies each morning plus dried food and fresh water, at dinner time
I top off their dried and add more water... little guys are doing
well.

Why would you say something like that?

It has been around since thin tv's were invented.

Could be. I just don't know people who have that kind of setup.

Jebus quoted you as saying that, also, though you did not jump
on his case about it.

Your original post, where you said that, is available. If someone
is spoofing you, you should know about it.

This is the entire paragraph:

You big screen people clearly think people not locked into television
feel 'superior' - far from the case, I rarely think about television.
I am a radio person through and through and with the advent of
podcasting I listen to articles from all over the world. Television
is dross in comparison. So that being the case, a small one fits my
needs better.

I know. My mother was in rehab last year (broken pelvis, not drugs,
heh). The woman in the next bed had her tv on loud the whole time.
My mother does not watch tv. I don't know how she stood the noise.
No wonder she got out of there early.

I had to search the trash to figure out WTF she was talking about.
She calls television "dross" and then gets upset at Ed when he voices
his opinion?

Ed said: "I'm amused at how so many people brag that they have
inferior equipment and feel superior because they hardy ever use it."

Whoooo, she says he implied she was a snob.

Finally found what I said that got her upset... in a subthread talking
about specific ways to hide or de-emphasize televisions "AFAIC, the
only reason to hide a tv like that is if it's in the living room and
you're a snob who doesn't want your friends to know you own one."
There was more to the post, but that's what she focused on.

The shoe must have fit rather well.

Understand your point, concerning Haliburton and I agree with you about
that. He is still my nephew and I love him, although he is about as
right wing as you can get. Aunties look over things like that.

What does a worker *working* for Haliburton have to do with it? That's like
saying a worker for BP or Exxon far removed from the oil spills are
responsible for the devastation. Ridiculous.

I think it all stems from ed saying that those of us who don't watch much
tv feel superior.

Seems to have been a rather unnecessary and inflammatory statement. It
certainly got my back up!

And I too understand your point, of course you love your nephew. It
was more an opportunity to have a dig at Halliburton... although I'm
not sure how anyone could work for them knowing, how they operate.

I love the Saturday mornings here, we have shows on the ABC local
station to do with raisng poultry and livestock, then onto the topic
of gardening, then fishing.

Yeah, we are similar in many ways - in others ways, not at all - I had
the French influence in mind.

I'm about 3 hours drive north of Hobart. I had to look up Corlette,
didn't know where that was

TVs are not irritating to me at all unless it is some show that I can not
stand. Most sitcoms would factor in there as would soap operas and sports.
Most other things I can stand as background noise. Radios tend to irritate
me.

I like the radio on when I am working in the kitchen, but I am listening.
I don't know if you can get radio 4 but I always have that on. When I am
finished in the kitchen, it is turned off. I don't like background noise.

Oooh! I hate silence! When the power goes out and we are snowed in, that's
true silence. Odd how you don't notice the noise of the electricity until
you don't have it.

I noticed. As I stated before, the comment was not directed at you.
There have been a few people though, that look down their noses at the
TV and those that watch. If the comment applies to you, you know my
feelings. If it does not apply, fine, ignore and carry on.

Silence can be refreshing. Most days at work there will be a period of
15 to 30 minutes with nothing happening. There are three of us where my
office is and at times, the phone is not ringing, we are not talking,
but just taking advantage of the moment. Close your eyes, relax, take a
short nap.

At home, we sometimes do the same thing. No TV, no one else home, just
the two of us reading. Gentle sounds like raindrops or birds chirping
can be nice, nothing man made.

Only time the radio is on at home is for the alarm. I wake up to the
news. If I want some noise, it will be music. Pop in a few CDs and let
it go.

In my car, I never listen to regular radio any more, just the XM so I
can hear music. Never thought I'd pay to listen to the radio.

I've certainly encountered people in real life who came across as if NOT
owning a television is some sort of badge of honor. Yeah, whatever.
They don't have the ability to make me feel like a lesser person because
I watch television.

Right now I'm hearing birds chirp out back. No TV. My cat Persia is
napping. There is the low hum of the refrigerator but nothing else.
It's very nice and quiet and peaceful this morning.

Riveting, no. Nothing I plan my time around. I do find some fun things
on TV. Sorry, I don't know who Corrie is.

I don't have huge TVs either. Those seem to be mostly for the
show-offs. I've met a few of them, too.

Why is having a huge TV showing off? I think it's a preference that some
enjoy, maybe even like having a swimming pool, or tennis court, or any
number of things that are enjoyed by the family. I have standard 32 inch
TV's, but I certainly don't think that those with large screen TV's are
showing off.

I don't think that either, some people don't enjoy TV. Just think how
horrible it would be if you were chained to a chair and forced to watch
something like "Hoarders." :-)

Isn't it just!!! I listen to those too, but I especially like the news
slots.
