Doesn't make sense as a buffet - there has to be more to it. No appetizers, no vegetables, no white rice for the pork. They must know the eating preferences of their guests. If the wedding was Protestant, I had no interest in going, because I knew that there wouldn't even be a bunch of beer for the grown-ups, and certainly not for the kids, but the Catholic wedding receptions rocked. There was plenty of beer, and 12, 13, 14 year-olds were allowed to drink it. *Plus* there was one thing even better than beer, the possibility that there might be the opportunity for slow dancing with girls. Beer and female bodies, and there was food too. That was my trifecta then, and 40 years hasn't changed that one bit. You are right though, some of the food at receptions can be crappy. > -- --Bryan You can cover up your guts, but when you cover up your nuts You're admitting that there must be something wrong. -The Who https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1FSZhCKbQZc |

I really don't have any trouble finding food I like at any given buffet dinner. I'd have to go with a nice salad and a fruit, and rolls and butter here. Wouldn't complain ... but it's amazing that this menu is comprised of two main dishes I can't stand. Sweet and sour, blech. Can't stand jerk chicken. Add in a curry and it's the nancy trifecta. Though now that I look closer, if the beans and rice are separate, that's fine, too. I wouldn't starve. nancy |

For many people, the highlight of the wedding food is the appetizers. There can be a long wait from the time of the ceremony and the time of the dinner. They don't even have to be expensive things. Some nuts (assuming there are no nut allergies) or chips and salsa are better than nothing. I hate wedding receptions too. Especially the ones that go on for hours and hours and hours and have some hokey band or DJ that thinks they are playing the music that we like. |

Upon further reflection, I'd probably have the chicken. I don't care for jerk, but who knows, maybe I'd change my mind. I've only been to a couple of no-booze weddings. The wedding is about the couple, of course. The reception is the after-party and the focus should include the guests. I agree about adding some appetizers. Spanakopita triangles comes to mind. She also says it is not up to her to tell others what to eat. Ellen is also a vegan and although she appears nice, magazines have said otherwise. You can't just blatantly condemn any one group of people like that. I ate a vegan diet for a while and it didn't change my personality any. And vegans and vegetarians are not the same thing. |

I'm not the only one here who said that about jerk seasoning. I have eaten with people who were eating it. They didn't like it and it didn't smell good to me. And I am most assuredly not dicatating that at all. I said that I thought the wedding couple should serve what they like. Heck, everyone knows if I were to have had a big wedding with food, there would be Mexican fare. Of course I would make sure that everyone I invited would get something that they liked to eat though. So if I were to invite someone who didn't like Mexican fare, I would have something else as well. My suggestion was to add appetizers. I could hardly be faulted for that. Pretty standard at a wedding reception. No? > > This is what you so painfully annoying and stupid. Don't you ever > know when to just SHUT THE **** UP? Most of the weddings I've been to were no booze. I was raised Methodist and they don't drink. Or they're not supposed to anyway... |

Are these all her favorite "restaurant foods" or what? Caterers have menus to choose from and that doesn't sound like any menu a caterer would supply. -- Good Food. Good Friends. Good Memories. |

I have looked up catering menus in this area when bored. Although some were extensive and had options that even I would choose, I also saw quite a few that were limited and not all that good. Heck, places like Qdoba and Taco Del Mar do catering. Not that I'd want it. Yes, I know that I said that if I were to do a wedding reception we'd eat Mexican but... I do have some standards. |

First I've heard of that. My mom was raised Methodist and there was definitely no prohibition against alcohol. I've got a pic of Grandma holding a beer at Mom & Dad's (decidedly casual) wedding reception. Jill |
