Default I measured my kitchen triangle.

After the triangle discussion, I was somehow impelled to get out the tape measure and see how I stood.
stove to sink 4 feet
stove to fridge 9 1/2 feet
sink to fridge 9 1/2 feet.
No WONDER I'm pooped after making a meal.

My fave kitchen was:
stove to sink about 2 1/2 feet
stove to fridge about 2 feet
fridge to sink about 3 feet. I could make a meal and maybe walk a total of 10 feet. Not exactly a McMansion, eh?

I'm gonna go do mine.

Stove to sink: 4 feet

Stove to fridge: 11 feet

Fridge to sink: 7 feet

Total length of the kitchen is only perhaps 13 feet to the stove. And it's
not very wide. Get two people in there and they can't get past each other
easily.

I had a kitchen that probably had about the same sizes as your small one. I
really only had to turn around and perhaps take a step to get from one thing
to another. Sidestep from fridge to stove.

I can deal with a long trip to the refrigerator because I get
everything out that I need at one time... but the sink to stove trip
at my house is the big deal. It's 7.5 feet - too far to be
comfortable. It took me years to work out a better way, but I use a
kitchen trapezoid now.

Roughly:

Fridge to stove 3 ft. 8 inches
Fridge to sink 9 ft. 3 inches
Stove to sink 9 ft. 8 inches

I have to walk around the "storage only" island in the middle to get
from the fridge to the sink or the stove to the sink. Whoever designed
this kitchen layout obviously didn't cook.

I don't know the dimensions of my fav kitchen, but it was galley style
and I really liked it. The fridge and stove were right across from each
other, just turn around and take a step. The sink and dishwasher were
just a couple of steps away. It was a true triangle and very
functional. It also plenty of storage and counter space.

I wish builders would get back to this arrangement. Who needs a flippin' dance floor? We just want to COOK, and give us lots of counterspace and cupboards.

That would be nice, wouldn't it? That particular kitchen had a corner
cab/lazy susan which is where I stashed most of the spices and bottles
of things like Worcestershire, etc. What a great way to use up
otherwise useless space.

My kitchen is a triangle with the sink in the center.

Stove to sink about 5 ft.
Sink to fridge about 5 1/2 ft.
Fridge to stove about 9 ft.

About 6 ft directly opposite the sink (but not in the way of the path
from the fridge to the stove) is a prep island. This faces into the
eating area and then the family room beyond that.

I love my kitchen because it is huge (about 14 ft. of counter space
plus what is on the island) and because when I'm doing stuff at the
island I can see the TV. I would not ever want a closed-in kitchen
again.

My fav kitchen wasn't closed in. There was a pass-thru between the
kitchen and the dining area which opened to the living room. I could
see the TV if I wanted, to, but mostly I was just cooking.

That would kill me. I want the sink to stove trip as short as
possible, directly across from each other or on the same wall with 2-3
ft of counter space between them would be my ideal set up.

My favorite was a galley kitchen too... it was 8--10 ft long -
couldn't have been any bigger than that (1 bedroom apt). The stove
and sink were exactly opposite from each other. I prepped at the sink
and spun around to cook. I don't remember which wall the refrigerator
was on, but there was a good amount of counter space between it and
whatever else was on that wall, so it was close but there was still
counter space to work on or set things on between it and the
sink/stove.

Default I measured my kitchen triangle.

Sink to stove 2.5 feet.
Stove to fridge 4.5 feet (taking into account that door opens from
center of fridge)

All the wonderful counter space is either to the left of the sink or on
the island across from the fridge and stove.

Though not my favorite kitchen, the best cooking kitchen I had was a
galley kitchen. Sink on one side, range top, microwave and wall oven on
the opposite side. Fridge was on the stove side of the kitchen.

It was a very efficient layout, but not very pretty.

My absolute dream kitchen would have a large island/peninsula with a
prep sink and a cooktop, with about 3 ft of counter space in between.
And, of course, you'd have to be able to see the TV from there.

Without measuring, mine is roughly the same as yours with the sink in
the center.

No island in mine. Just the triangle of the sink, stove, fridge and the
rest a small amount of counter space and cabinets.

I would love to have an open plan like that. I doubt I'll ever have
another house in my lifetime, so I'll make due with the way it is.

I watch a lot of those shows where people are buying and/or remodeling
houses. Sometimes I do wonder at the kitchens. I would love a large
kitchen but I would also love to have a portion of it be functional. I
could deal with a large portion that was mainly for storage.

I have two of those and those are pretty much the only places I have to
store food. My MIL had one in her house and it was where she kept spices.
That did work well. I have to stash my spices in a small upper cabinet that
is really a tad small for my needs. They won't all fit so I have to put the
Costco sized things on the counter on a lazy Susan. I would love to be able
to keep them all in one spot.

My one lazy Susan cupboard is for canned goods but it doesn't hold all that
we need as I don't like to have to go shopping for these things all the
time. So the rest has to go in the garage.

The other one is really a waste of space. I put baking things in there but
after the weevil infestation, everything has to go in a plastic container
and those don't fit so well. I am constantly having to pull stuff off just
to swivel it. Seems to work best for round containers but some of mine are
square.

My kitchen is galley but open at the one end to the dining room.

We looked at this one house that had two drawbacks to me. The first that I
saw was that to get to the laundry, you had to walk through a bedroom and
into a bathroom that was off of the bedroom. The washer and dryer were in
that bathroom.

The next was that the kitchen was sort of in its own wing at one end of the
house. I can't even remember where the dining area was there. I don't
really remember a dining room or an eating area in the kitchen. Just this
dark, long and narrow kitchen with no windows in it that seemed to be living
off on its own. I stepped one foot into it and said, "No. Just no!"

I think perhaps that the house had been remodeled. But instead of doing it
like they did with this house and extending it towards the back, they just
kept adding on to one side, making a long and somewhat narrow house with an
even narrower kitchen at the one end.

Probably the weirdest of all that I saw while house hunting was the
musicians house. I got the idea that rather than a family living there, it
was just a bunch of assorted musicians. They actually had a little stage
right off of the kitchen and nothing that I could have really said was a
living room. There were two bedrooms at one end with a full bath and two at
the other with a full bath. Each bedroom had a tiny closet and a bed sort
of built in next to the wall with this bizarre storage area next to it. I
don't even want to try to remember it now as it was really odd and kind of
dirty looking. Someone had taken a piece of plain wood which in a few cases
had been painted rather badly and attached it at the top with hinges. It
all looked very clap trap.

Oddly enough the house was beautiful from the outside except that there was
no real porch and the door entry was up high. They had merely piled some
patio blocks and wood there so that you could get in.

And the kitchen? Although open, it was terribly small. They did have Pergo
flooring, granite countertops and lovely cupboards and fixtures but... The
whole front of it was open to the stage. Rather than a stove, there was one
of those countertop 4 burner things on the open area. I think that was
where the small sink was too. There was a wall oven and only upper
cupboards at the back of it. No pantry and only small linen closets at
either end of the place. So no real place to store food and really only
enough cupboards for some dishes and perhaps a few pots and pans. Reminded
me of the sort of kitchen that you might use if teaching a cooking class.

You also had to go up a few steps to get to the kitchen which I found was
odd. Up to go there. Up to go to the stage. Certainly wasn't the right
house for us.
