Note: This is not a complaint, merely an observation.
They're having a Men's Only event at the Club tomorrow night. A single-malt whiskey tasting, cigars on the veranda(h), NY strip steaks grilled to order, loaded baked potatoes, green beans almondine, bread & butter. Wowsa! This is like a wayback machine circa 1900. Gentlemen, shall we take our leave for cigars and brandy? We can go discuss things women simply can't understand. LOL On July 24th there's a Women's Only wine and chocolate tasting. Sure, because all women love chocolate. We sit around eating bonbons while watching soap operas. LOL Apparently they haven't figured out what else to feed women because the email says "details to follow, make your reservation now!" Reservations for what? They haven't figured out what they're going to feed us [women]. I'm pretty sure it won't be a "manly" meal of steak & baked potatoes. Probably some fru-fru chicken salad or something wrapped in a spinach tortilla. ![]() Me, I'll take the strip steak, grilled no more than medium rare, the loaded baked potato and the green beans almondine. I wouldn't object to a sip of a good smooth single malt, either. :-D Jill |

Why don't you tell them what you think should be the offerings at the women's event? They probably got suggestions from some men, and are at the moment on their own re the women. |

Yep, that's me, the sexist pig. I have something to say about book clubs. Never, ever. They tell you what you *have* to read (mostly selected by someone who watches Oprah Winfrey) as if it's a school assignment. Then they get together and analyze the book to pieces. IMHO, book club members don't actually read because they like to. OB Food: Had 2 scrambled eggs, 3 link sausages and a piece of buttered whole wheat toast for breakfast. Jill |

The dance studio tried to do a book club. No way. I like to read certain kinds of books. But there is no way that I want to sit around discussing them, even if they are books that I want to read. |

As much as I do enjoy girls night out, that attitude would get my dander up too. They should have a bridge club afternoon of finger sandwiches and tea for the ladies and an evening of beer & pool for the men. -- All you need is love. I bet it'll be a tea, and the women will be told to wear their fanciest hats. Or maybe a cards luncheon. I'd email the club back, and mock-seriously caution them not to get the strippers booked for each event mixed up. The ladies wouldn't like that. |

They might start off as hard core, but become more social events over the years. Yes, the book is discussed - when that's over, it's time for a much longer chat about personal lives, families and vacations over food and drinks. -- All you need is love. Classic Caeser with Fresh Parmesan Greek Salad Tradtional Chef Salad Almond Orange Salad Char-Broiled Angus Burger Chicken Katsu on Japanese Sweet Bread Fish Tacos Cubano Sandwich Pulled Pork Quesadilla Flank Steak Hoagie Fettucine Alfredo Four Cheese Lasagna Mac and Cheese but this has scallion, chili, sour cream and cheese Grilled Vegetable Platter with Rich Bean Ragout Salmon Du Jour Open Face (Angus) Meatloaf Turkey Picatta Half Roasted Hen: Note that I hope they meant half of a roasted hen and not how it reads Lamp Shank with Minted Brown Sauce Weekly Men: Sun: Roast Turkey and Stuffing Mon: Pan Fried Snapper Filet Roasted Mango Salsa Tues: Vegetarian Lasagna Garlic Bread We: Herbed Roasted Pork Loin Pan Gravy Thu: King Chicken with Peppers, Peas, Carrots and Cream Fri: Pacific Salmon Filet Dill Cream Sauce Sat: Hash Brown Casserole Baked in Mushroom Sauce They also have a small salad bar that changes daily and soup of the day. There is also a bar menu that I don't see listed. I know they had chips and salsa, sliders and a chicken and black bean quesadilla. Not sure what else but it was a small menu. The Bistro has: Chili in a Bread Bowl Soup Salmon Chowder Bagel and Lox White Bean Hummus Pulled Pork Wrap Chicken Caeser Wrap Soup and Half Sandwich Fruit Plate and Cottage Cheese Pizzas: Four cheese/Herb, BLT, Margarita, Pepperoni and Cheese I also heard the waitress say that they have a fish of the day and pasta of the day. Breakfast: Dutch Apple Pancake Eggs Florentine Crab Stuffed Crepes Eggs Benedict Ham Steak and Eggs Farmers Skillet Eggs, Sausage and Flap Jacks Biscuits and Sausage Grave Burrito - Scrambled Eggs, Sausage, Cheese, Peppers, side of Salsa Arnold Sandwich - English Muffin, Cheese, Egg White, Avocado, Tomato, Arugula Pesto- Mayo French Toast Casserole Italian Frittata Santa Fe Quesadilla And in the coffee shop which I think is also the Bistro, they have assorted donuts and pastries, cookies, bread for toasting, bagels, muffins, assorted spreads and I think some sort of cereal. They are allowed two meals per day but soup and salad do not count. Nor does anything from the coffee shop. Although the coffee shop is just a little walk in place with no seating. There are desserts. I have not seen what they are. I only ate there once and we didn't want dessert so I didn't see the dessert menu. I can see how at first, this would be a good menu. But if that's all you have to choose from day after day, I think it would get quite tiring. And so much of what they serve is so glopped up that I wouldn't even want it. Example being that mac and cheese. And chili in a bread bowl? I know some people love bread bowls. I am not one of them. I do know that one of the daily pastas was ravioli and for the May birthdays they served Swedish meatballs. They could not however come up with much for me to eat aside from salad, veggies or I was told they could make a steak. But I can't digest steak. Apparently their burgers and sliders contain either egg or dairy or both and can't be made without. ![]() And my mom said a neighbor was complaining to her. Said he was diabetic and had been told they could make suitable food for him. He said since he moved in there, not one meal was suitable for him. Obviously the salad bar would be suitable provided that you watch what you take. They do seem to have at least one protein choice on it daily. Either meat, cheese, eggs or beans. And they do have some prepared salads that could be carby. They also have rolls and crackers. But who wants to eat salad every day? Also, I have no idea what kind of diet this guy thinks would be suitable for a diabetic. |

In fact, I just googled and we have *three* different lawn bowling court locations in that one park. -- All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt. |

Yeah, exactly. I'm pretty sure that if they knew her preferences, they'd be sure to exclude all of them. I can't imagine she's too popular. With her open hostility about the Club, I'm sure she's eaten her share of snot and spit. |

Aside from one permanent neighbor, the other ladies in the community I know have already gone back to their other homes, up north, to escape the heat. There are more coloured pegs than I remember and no hoops/wickets. My neighbor and I talked about that over lunch a few months ago. Oh, and on certain days you'd have to wear croquet "whites". How very 1900's. Where *does* one finds proper croquet attire? LOL Jill |

Lot's of males are very proficient in the fiber arts, especially spinning and knitting. And tailor is historically a male dominated profession, still, as is sailmaker and leather sewing. My father was an exceptional upholsterer and drapery maker, he could hand stitch and operate a factory sewing machine with the best of them, and hustled part time in NYC's rag district as a fabric cutter for which he was paid handsomely... and yet he drove a NYC bus as his prime occupation simply because he loved it... Ralph Kramden had nothing on him... he loved driving a bus because he loved people and NYC was perfect for him because he spoke seven languages proficiently and dabbled in all others, including those of the south pacific islands from serving there as an aide for Admiral Halsey during WWll, as permanant SP he transported him by Hawg sidedcar. |
