Default The platter arrived!

Also the grill pan. The pan is lighter than I thought it would be. I will
make steaks with it and we'll see.

The platter? OMG! Clearly I am not good at figuring out sizes. It's HUGE!
So big that it won't fit in any of my cupboards. Not even close. And won't
fit sideways in my fridge. It will go lengthwise but I fear that won't be
safe to do as something like 8-10" of it are sticking out the front. And it
takes up the entire space from side to side. Still, it will be very useful
those times when I am making a lot of things and don't want to stack them.
Like pancakes for the freezer. And it is very decorative. I had to put it
standing up at the back of the counter behind my auxiliary seasoning and
dried veg Lazy Susan and my microwave popcorn rack. It does look stunning
there. Sort of Mexicanish and the colors are the same as the kitchen.

So my new quest will be to get a smaller platter, and then check the
measurements of the fridge and cabinets before ordering.

If the platter is decorative, you can hang it on the wall with plate hooks.

No wall to hang it on and I'll never do plate hooks again. Did that once
with an expensive plate I was given. Wasn't even up for an hour when
something went wrong and it crashed to the floor.

Send it back for a refund or exchange. Sur la Table's Return Policy
includes this statement:

"Return it to us by mail. If you choose to mail your return, please
complete the Return Form located on the back of your invoice included
with your package. Then repack the product in the original packing
materials used for shipping, and enclose your completed Return Form. If
you do not have your invoice please include a note letting us know why
you are returning the package and how you would like us to proceed with
your return, exchange, or refund. For your convenience, the Return Form
includes a pre-addressed Return Label that you may use to ship the
package back to us - simply attach the label to your package. Please
note: The shipping is NOT prepaid. We recommend that you send your
package by a traceable method."

You'd have to pay to send it back but you won't be stuck with an
oversize platter. And hey, you already said you got a great deal on the
platter so it shouldn't be a big deal (expense) to return it. They
might even have the same platter in a smaller size, so exchange it.

Nope! It will be perfect for the cookies. They are dipped in chocolate on
one end and need to be set on waxed paper for the chocolate to set up. It
only cost me $19.99. It is very heavy. I don't even want to venture to
guess how much that would cost to send back. For sure more than I paid.
Plus it is the right colors for my kitchen, it looks kinda Mexican and I
love it! So even if it doesn't get a lot of use, it will get some use and
it looks good sitting out.

I will just keep my eye out for a Corelle platter or something similar. Can
get the white Corelle now for only $9.99 on Amazon. Which really is a good
price but still, I can cheap out on stuff like that. Only buying when I see
a good clearance sale or full price out of need. I could probably even snag
a good deal now or after summer on some kind of plastic or Melamine thing.
It's not likely that I would ever cook on the platter. I just need
something larger than my dinner plates to occasionally store something in
the fridge or to put baked goods on.

Yes but for one thing, there is no way I would ever hang something as heavy
as this is, even if I did have the wall to do it on. One thing that bugs
the crap out of me is all of the glass bowls that they have at my mom's
place. Some are very huge! And while I am actually really into putting
things on the wall other than pictures, I do not like to see heavy things
there. Especially heavy, breakable things.

My kitchen is a small, galley style but totally open on one end. The only
There is a section of wall between the upper and lower cabinets and there is
where the platter now resides. It just barely fits in that space. There is
also space above for decorative things but it's up so high that it is hard
to get to. I'm sure that the platter would look good up there but it would
stick up higher than the other things that I have plus... When I redid the
kitchen, I went out and bought things specifically to go up there. I
already had a few things that I used but... I went with a light hand on the
decorative things, keeping them inexpensive, colorful and fitting to my
theme. When I bought those things, we still had Bali who loved to go up
there and disturb things. Now I see Jetta, looking. She's not quite as
adept at climbing but one day she might get up there. So anything I put up
there that is breakable is not easily knocked over, and the rest is
unbreakable.

Why not just use a roasting pan or cookie sheet to store what ever in the
fridge?

Right. I use my platters for serving, not for storage.

I have a big enough kitchen to be annoying. There are only three
places to hang that thing and if I put it in my refrigerator, I'd have
to clear the entire width to accomodate it. Luckily, I have a 12 inch
wide (probably more, but not much more) lower cabinet that's designed
to hold those things, so that's where it would be stored at my house.

It might possibly fit in the pullouts lower but they are super shallow and I
have pans in them so that wouldn't be the best place to put it.

My tray storage cabinet is regular height and depth, but not the
regular width (a weird place where that was the right thing to do)
with two little dividers, less than 12 inches high, in there to help
keep things fairly upright.

For one thing, my cookie sheets have no edge on them and they are huge.
Would not fit in there. My roasting pans are large too. But there are
times when I want to make a large amount of something. Like nut cheese
stuffed veggies. I have more than a plate will hold and yet I don't want to
stack them. Plus for serving, a platter would be ideal. Now that I think
about it, I did at one time have some cheap (Walmart) plastic platters that
I bought for a birthday party. I'll have to check. I think I got rid of
them. They weren't exactly totally flat.

What'dya know! I still have two of them. They don't look so good though.
I think I paid like 99 cents for each one. Maybe less. They were fine for
when I used them. I needed a lot of new things to serve food for a person
who kept kosher. I just did what she told me to do.

I did use them a lot in NY for snacks for the kids. I used to cut up fruit
and take it outside. But they look rather scratched and dull now. And they
are very lightweight. I would like something of at least slightly better
quality. I just tucked them in a drawer along with my chip clips and Plink
balls and I don't think I thought anything more about them. I likely sent
the yellow one in to school or to my husband's work or something and never
got it back.

Nice. I keep looking at my kitchen door. And I wonder... How much trouble
would it be to totally take it out and put a pantry there? I couldn't
really do it now unless I decided to be fine with something that doesn't
match. And it would make it be a rather closed off kitchen instead of the
open design that it is now. I just see no reason for that door to be there.
Right around the corner is a sliding door. And next to this room is my
bedroom with an exterior door. So it's not like we'd be trapped in here
should there be a fire. Heck the garage is near the kitchen too!

Sure. Here's the link. And yes, I know that dimensions were given. I am
just not good at visualizing how big something like that would be. I should
have known after I got the giant Amish potato masher.

That one got some pretty bad reviews. Stretched out, platter fell and
broke. Not for heavy items. After breaking that one plate I will no longer
hang breakable stuff like that. Glad yours worked though.

That's very pretty. You need to get yourself a measuring tape.

Leave it to you to complain about a picture on a commercial web site. I
can tell it's oval from the angle of the photograph.

It's an attractive platter but is yours oval or round? From the
measurements given it should be oval but in their picture it's round.
Were it me I'd place it out of sight until I was going to use it, if
it's displayed all the time you'll get used to it and it woon't look
special when you finally use it. Or you could display it in a room
other than your kitchen, I'd consider placing it on my bedroom chest
of drawers and use it to hold a framed picture.

It's oval but it is so large that I have no place to put it out of sight.
It will be perfect for the cookies that Angela is going to make today. Can
cover with waxed paper and set them on there for the chocolate to dry. Only
wish it wasn't quite as warm as it is today. Of course tomorrow it will
cool off.
