In Alberta the distracted driving law also covers eating (obviously not
candy and the like) and personal grooming at the wheel. A couple of
years ago a young woman was killed when she crossed the median and went
head-on into a gravel truck. She had been putting on her make-up.

I used to see that sort of thing when I was in my twenties. Mature
women (such as myself) aren't so terribly concerned about makeup. If
you wear makeup, get up a little earlier and put it on at home.
Lipstick need a touchup? Wait until you get where you're going. Makeup
isn't a matter of life and death... unless you want to be a very pretty
corpse.

There was an incident on the other side of the highway from my work
location where someone was killed at the wheel while on his cell phone.
Truck traffic was backed up at the border and the guy ran right into the
back of a stopped truck. The first person on the seen told the person on
the other end of the line what had just happened to his buddy.

About a year ago there was a fatal accident involving a woman coming
home from a midnight shift. Her husband said that she had just called to
say that she was on her way home.
