I wonder if it could have anything to do with pig roasts and the head
proudly displayed with an apple in its mouth? My ex's family had a pig
roast one time and put the head on display somewhere with an apple in
its mouth when the pig finished cooking.

Think about it... why is an *apple* and not some other tree fruit in
its mouth?

I put a couple of mint plants on the creek bank for soil retention.
They spread like crazy and the network of roots ties the bank in
place. We use the string trimmer on the mint a couple of times a
summer -- scents the air for at least a block

I know mint loves water. In the outskirts of San Diego county, my
mother had it around a leaky well with a shade over it in the garden
and they never strayed into the full sun.

Don't think about it. It's just the traditional look.
