![]() The vinegar site says spritzing with vinegar prevents potatoes from turning black... I wonder, might it prevent avocados from turning too? Is it ok to eat avacodoes when they turn? I mean, when they were ok and you cored one but didn't eat it all. And it turns a day later. |

Then you should put it in the refrigerator. It should not get black if air doesn't get in contact with the open part. When in the refrigerator it stops ripening. (The ones I get are fairly small.) This comes from my mother who only eats a half at a time. If you remove the seed in the half you are saving, you can't really get the plastic wrap into the seed hole. So she leaves the seed in. You do peel your avocados, don't you? You cut into quarters. I start the cuts at the stem hole. Then you can peel the skin off each quarter. If you are going to save half, then don't cut the fourth slash. It won't kill you. Whether you enjoy it or not might be another matter. |

I just cut them in half, whack the knife into the seed, dispose of the seed and scoop the flesh out with a large spoon in two large pieces. I don't bother 'peeling' them. |

I have lemon juice, but it's like a year old... is it still ok? I should probably chuck... was not very expensive anyway. I think it it says: refrigerate after opening, but doesn't say how long. |

It'd be safe to consume but certainly not at it's peak of flavour ![]() Might pay to taste it first... |

The only reason you'd need the bottled type is for canning purposes. -- All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt. |

Real lemons are expensive here and I will only buy them if I need them specifically for some recipe. Otherwise, I might buy one or more and it will rot before I use them. Lemons were dirt cheap in NY and I could get a huge bag the size of a bed pillow for around $3. I kept a bowl of them on my counter all the time and put them in my water. I wish I could do that here but I can't afford to. |

Lemons are pretty cheap. I should just get a couple... what about keeping avacodoes from turning? |

I just cut it off and continue as usual. If it's actually "turned", meaning rotten... that's what happens when you don't use soft fruit in a reasonable amount of time. -- All you need is love. Will report back... Got two avocadoes in the fridge, ready... do you know what "avacodo" means in spanish? |

Make only what you can eat and then make another batch the next time you want some. -- All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt. |
