Here are the mailbox pics. As you can see, on the back are the large units
for packages.

http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y22...ps27f648c5.jpg

The house in the pics is not mine.

And here is a unit on the next street over. Further down they had some
different styles, all locking but there were tons of people outside and I
wasn't about to waste my day taking pics of all the mailboxes.

So... Neener, neener, neener!

Those are really ugly. I'm glad they're not near my house. At least the ones
where I live look decent and not like old rusted out garbage cans. :-)

Yes, the ones I am familiar with are polished. The Postal Service has left
those looking like a slum. That makes me more concerned about some of the
news stories that the PS would like to convert people who receive
door-to-door delivery to this type of box. I have seen many of these
clusters of mail boxes, but I have never seen them in such poor condition.

Where do you live, Guantanamo Bay? What a freakin ugly letter box and
suburb. If that's how your mail is delivered, that is a disgrace. You
need a new postal service there - badly from what I've seen and read
in this thread.

And your pics are upside-down... again.
This time, I took a screen shot:

The pics are not upside-down when I view them. But the boxes are incredibly
ugly.

Mailbox pictures are cool. My dad has his mailbox post covered with
concrete panels that look like fake stonework. It's pretty goofy.

Still upside down for me with Firefox <shrug>. The only differences
are presumably our web browsers... just tried Chrome, and the pic is
the right way up.

Agree. I can't really even clean them well because they are way too far
from my hose. The tops are vile. Mold and dirt on there. I don't know
what we would do to get a new one.

Me either. The ones around the corner and further down are nice looking.
They have the wider slots like the commercial ones I posted the pic of.
Those houses are also a lot nicer than mine too.

I did not see his/her post. Could be that person is in my KF now. I have
no clue who put those in. Was way before my time here. They were nasty
when I moved in almost 10 years ago and only getting worse.

Why would or should you clean them if you're paying for their
maintenance already?

>The tops are vile. Mold and dirt on there. I don't know

And you won't try to find out either - just like you kinda knew you
could really get a replacement key but wouldn't ask the post office -
and won't complain about the visual state of these mailboxes, even
though it bothers you and they visually detract from the community.
Great for property prices...

I got one of each last night. It was right side up the first time I
viewed, must have used another browser when I looked the second time
because it was upside down. Just opened it in both browsers and both
images were right side up this time around.

About the boxes being ugly, I agree - but she has no control over
that. As far as I can tell, there's no homeowners association to say
they want a prettier model - so she's stuck with what's there until
hell freezes over or they become unusable... whichever comes first.

I agree, they are sorry looking... rusted, dinged, and filthy.
The house in that one photo looks very sad as well, the lawn is a
wreck, not even a shrub by the house, and from what can be seen the
back yard is an unkempt jungle.
I have a rural mailbox across the road in front of my house but I
don't use it for mail, I prefer getting mail in my PO Box in town.

Don't you have a bucket... fill it with hot soapy water and go at it
with a scrub brush.

Gary won't be able to view them. He's got an old OS and dialup
connection that doesn't like Photobucket. Those mailboxes are hideous.

Those things are very strong. She would probably do more damage to her car
than to the cluster of mailboxes--or, if successful, would also deprive her
neighbors of delivery while they waited for it to be replaced.

I see that you found the thread! The people who own that house are very
nice. Young couple and they just had a baby. House is newly painted and new
roof. They have the backyard with the stream running through it. It is
surrounded by blackberry bushes and all sorts of stuff. Would really be
difficult to do much with it I should think, other than just trimming some
stuff.

They do normally keep their front yard well trimmed although perhaps not
weed free. I suspect they have just been very busy with the baby.

They're called "cluster boxes".

Older style cluster boxes had the roughly six inch wide and eight inch
tall front doors. Newer ones as in our new neighborhood in FL have doors
over twelve inches wide, and three and a half inches high, so that
larger envelopes, magazines, etc., will fit flat.

Sadly, the sorting trays used in the mail delivery vehicles still
require large items to be rolled up, so we still get our mail in wads
despite the nice new box design. Letter to the postmaster accomplish --
you guessed it -- nothing.

I did get a flipped picture once last night, so it happens. The
picture that was flipped last night was fine earlier this morning.

The one above appeared as flipped just now when I clicked and when I
copy/pasted into the other browser. It's a mystery.

Plus the willful destruction of public property fine if she's caught.
Best scenario would be an armored truck crashing into it.

Thank you for the pics, Julie. I didn't really doubt you later on. No
single home neighborhoods have those where I live now or have ever
lived.

I agree with you and others that the mailboxes look like crap. Write a
letter and address it to Postmaster in your zipcode. Tell them your
problem, include the pics, give them your name and address and the
address of the boxes in question. Drop this letter off at your post
office. They will fix the problem eventually but not very
quickly....govt moves slow.

Those boxes don't need to be replaced....just painted.

Strangely, some Photobucket pics I can not see but Julie's always load
straight forward. I think the difference is that she posts the actual
..jpg link and others don't. Her mailboxes are in serious need of a
paint job.

It's strange. It's obvious somthing to do with photbucket and versions
of Firefox - or some plugin for Firefox. In my case, at least.

I just checked again - now it's the right way up again...

Just did some *very quick* research, seems to be a common problem and
another common theme appears to be that the pics were taken with an
iPad. Did Julie use an iPad?

That's too far down for me to carry a bucket that is filled with soapy
water. And it is so dirty on top, I would need to change the water out at
least several times. Plus the dirt and mold would just come right back
again.
