He was totally untrained, but he within a few weeks I had him leashed trained and was able to let him run loose to get some much needed exercise. The more energy he burned off on his runs the better behaved he was. He turned out to be a pretty good dog. We sort of rescued a Belgium Shepherd (Groenendahl) whose previous owner had to find a home for due to the wife having been hospitalized with depression and father worked out of the house and had a three year old and a newborn baby to care for. He was a fantastic dog. That Belgium was so good that we offered to take another Belgium, this time a Malinois. We got the dog from hell. I had to get a gate to take him in the car so I don't have to clean all the windows very time he goes for a ride. He barks at every dog,cat and person he sees along the way. He is so aggressive that I cannot take him for walks if there will be other dogs. I cannot let him loose near the house because he will not come when he is called.... even after close to 6 years of attempts to train him to do things I never had trouble teaching other dogs. He has pulled my wife off her feet several times, causing her to scrap her knees several times, spraining her foot and breaking a finger. He has broken choke chains and training collars. When he is home alone with us he is sweet as can be. |

I guess the reason I care is that as long as they get a good ratio of sales per hour spent they are being profitable. If I can put a dent in that profit it gives them less incentive to call all the time and maybe they will pack it in. Maybe they will develop some software to allow them to skip the people like me who will waster their time. > > You do realize they use auto-dialers, right? If i don't answer within a set number of rings it will automatically dial the next number on its list. BTW.... don't believe any polls you read about. For some reason I am randomly picked way too often. I am under no obligation to tell them the truth. I will even tell them opposing answers. For example, I was polled about our recent provincial election. The asked asked me which party leader I liked the most, which party I liked the best, which candidates I would be most likely to vote for and I have to confess that I lied about them. |

The people we got him from rescued him after the hurricane and he was about six months old. They spent half their time in a trailer park in Florida and the rest of the year at their cottage in an island in Muskoka where he ran free all the time. He was evicted from the trailer park because he was so bad. He has calmed down a lot, especially in the last few months, but he still can't be trusted not to bolt if let loose, or to lunge at people or dogs if he is on a leash. He is nowhere near as vicious as he sounds. |

I used to have Labs and they were thrilled just to be in the same world with me. When I had the Groendahl it was nice to have a dog that understood hand signals and the spoken word, but it was annoying that he would look at me like I was some sort of idiot if I didn't understand what he wanted sometimes. My son didn't that dog and said that if we bought another one of that breed and something happened to us, he would take it to the pound. |

Yeah. She did need to learn to be a little more aggressive, or assertive - if only to defend herself, at least from a friend's female cattle dog who was (and still is) jealous of her because my friend also has two male dogs which Winnie loves to play with. Well, she learned alright... one day Winnie pinned her to the ground by the throat. She wasn't nasty about it or did any harm, just did it in a business-like manner to make a point. That other female dog still gets jealous but Winnie doesnt tolerate her crap any more and puts her in her place ![]() >But, nipping strangers in an affectionate manner just isn't going to >be understood ![]() Yep. You just need to tell her 'no', but strangers don't know that. She helps to deter strangers though, so it's not all bad IMO. Might as well post a pic of Win (about a year old now): http://www.hostpic.org/images/1406300303390102.jpg |
