I just started reading this book:

http://www.amazon.com/Tomatoland-Ind...rds=tomatoland

It talks of slave labor in Florida. The slaves harvest tomatoes. They are
beaten if sick or unable to work. They are locked in cages at night.
Hideous.

I don't understand people. How can some be so inhumane?

I'm reading Dreamland. Very interesting. Says couples should sleep
in separate beds. Wish I read this book when I was married!

One of my tomatoes is turning yellow; put some more stakes and
vinegar-soaked socks around the perimeter. Keeps the squirrels at
bay, for a while.

If modern day slavery is happening in Florida today, it's because
nobody cares about how illegal workers are treated. If things were
any better at home, they wouldn't be here in the first place. Blame
the victim. If you're poor, it's your own d@mn fault. They are told
to shut up and work or go home. Who would they tell even if they
could? Go to the authorities, get deported.

We have all sorts of illegal worker slave labor situations in the USA
that no one is talking about. It's not limited to field work and
prostitution.

Necessity... 2.5 billion-- with a b-- people do not have toilets or
adequate sanitation.

The only way to end these practices is to subject the upper management of
companies engaged in those practices to Federal civil rights prosecutions,
then *farm* those convicted out to Southern state prisons that still employ
chain gangs.

That was ****ing great. Nice to see a tribute to Lou Reed on Pride
Weekend. He was pretty far to the hetero side of the spectrum, but
identified with the *** subculture, and LGBT liberation. He and David
Bowie had a huge influence upon males like me, and lured straight guys
into acceptance of *** and bisexual equality.

I went to the commitment ceremony in St.Louis today, where same sex
couples took vows in the rotunda of City Hall. It was "a God awful
small affair", an adjunct to the huge festival that had overpriced food,
and music that was indistinguishable from that at any other similar
festival.

It's interesting how so many hetero males embraced the idea of
bisexuality even though they were quite hetero, and hetero and bi
females appreciated the company of *** men as friends, I guess because
they were non-threatening.

Whatever sort of body one has, that is one of the best love songs, ever.

New York is the album everyone knew Lou Reed would make someday... I
read that in a review.

My tomatoes are all coming ripe at the same time... Guess I can give to
friends and relatives... Some are looking vg!

I would kill for a nice big Jersey Beefstake tomato. Someone who used
to be on this group and was a former neighbor of mine once sent me a box
of them. I was in tomato heaven.

So you don't like New York, but love tomatoes?

I like both. So far the vinegar soaked socks are holding off the
squirrels. Last two years, damn things stole every one of my niece's
tomatoes and fair number of mine. I think the key is to resoak the
socks after a rain. The vinegar bottle says every 10 days but I think
that is too long.

Pretty soon I'll be able to read again. I'm more than halfway
though the major revising, and am actively pursuing agents. I
think the first thing I'll read is The Fault In Our Stars. The
movie was very good, and my wife says that the book is even better.

but do you like waking up to snoring, or being pushed off the bed-- in
the middle of the night?
