Default Favorite thing to do with tomatoes?

I have been getting some really good ones lately at Central Market! Have
been eating them on sandwiches and salads. I also like to have big slices
mixed with slices of red onion. And of course salad Caprice/Caprese but
sadly no more cheese for me. Not quite as good without the cheese but still
good. I like cooked tomatoes too but when they are super good like this, I
want them raw.

You like beans. Make a cold salad from diced fresh tomato and garbanzo
beans. You can add onion, garlic, basil whatever floats your boat.

Speaking of caprese. Have you ever tried this?

I made it a couple of times last summer and thought it was
dee-licious.

Grill them - a bit messy but delicious.

No. I don't like garlic bread. Angela and my husband do but neither likes
tomatoes and she can't have basil so not likely I would try that. It does
look good though!

Why do you even ask? You know that Bovine family members have aversions
to just about everything and that there is almost nothing that all three
will eat.

I do not like tomatoes cooked as well as raw. Nothing beats a BLT when tomatoes are in season. I also like them sliced with a light sprinkle of sugar. Try it!! It tastes really good. I also like them sliced with a dollop of mayo. I also make a tomato and cucumber salad that I love.

I do not like Caprise salad. I have never cared for it.

It's much better if you turn your oil and vinegar into homemade
Italian dressing.

Not messy, depends on which type of tomato, home grown romas sliced
longitudinally grill beautifully and no mess whatsoever. Even some
tyes of salad tomatoes grill with no mess, choose small ones and also
slice longitudinally (stem to stern), sliced crosswise all types of
ripe tomatoes get all drippy and lose their internal organs,
especially ripe beefsteaks... however grilling is a great way to use
end of season green tomatoes. I don't think Julie would have the
patience to do a lot of precision dicing but I don't mind and I'm
quick with a knife, this is one of my favorites for going through a
glut of tomatoes; romas, parsley, and onions, sometimes I add diced
kirbys, celery, bell peppers, or whatever else in my garden is
ready... add s n'p, olive oil, and vinegar or fresh lemon juice...
don't use a food processor or you may as well flush it:

I didn't think it sounded good until my boss 40 years ago got me onto it. I use very little sugar, and the acid taste of the tomato and the sugar make a really good combo. Give it a try, all you have to lose is a little sugar and a tomato slice.

my favorite as well only we call it Pico de Gallo. Diced tomatoes,
onions, jalapeno, cilantro, garlic, lime juice, salt and pepper. I
make it by the tubful (2-3 quarts) and take it everywhere. People
stand over the bowl and gobble with corn chips.
Also like chunked tomatoes and sliced onions with garlic in a basalmic
vinaigrette.

I was brought up with my father sprinkling sugar on his tomato slices
and my mother sprinkling salt. Overall, I prefer salt. But a really
good, ripe, home grown tomato doesn't need anything.

For someone who claims to be a writer your vocabulary, word definition
knowlege, and word usage is most inadequate... all intolerance is
perceived (by oneself and/or by others), so by what imperceptable
brain fartedness does your pea princess manifest her basil
intolerance? Or do you mean basal?

As a writer you should be able to construct a proper sentence... those
are not... and you're such a negative nebbish... I would have replied
"Hold the sugar, I'm sweet enough."

I'll pass. I don't like sugar in my tomato sauce either. If it's too acid,
I put lemon in it.

I love pico de gallo from most restaurants but I don't like what I make at
home. Not sure what I am doing wrong.

Ohhhh... So you think the violent intestinal dump that I get from eating an
egg is perceived? I think not. That is the food that I react the most
strongly too. Even my allergist told me to avoid them, give my reaction.

I made something last night that counts as what I like to do with
tomatoes, but you don't like sugar so you probably won't like it. I
bought Persian cucumbers and the multicolored tomatoes that are cherry
tomato size from Trader Joe's. Cut the cucumbers into thick coins and
cut the tomatoes in half. I cut a smallish red onion into rings and
quartered them. The dressing (more like a bath) was equal parts
sugar, vinegar and water. I heat it enough to dissolve the sugar, add
some celery seed to the hot liquid and cool it down before combining
it with the tomato/cucumber mixture. I needed to make it fast last
night, so I heated the sugar and vinegar together, then cooled it down
with ice cubes.

Although I like pickles, I guess I don't like them enough to usually seek
them out. But cucumbers? Don't really care for. And really don't care for
them in vinegar. My mom used to serve them in iced vinegar water. She
liked them that way.

I also have never cared for things in vinegar, especially if there is sugar
in there. But I would probably eat something like that without the
dressing. I would just pick around the cucumbers.
