Aren't you near Beaufort? (SP?) Are you in the path of hurricane
Arthur? I don't remember many "A's" becoming hurricanes, other than
Agnes.

Stay safe!

Thank you for your concern! There are two Beauforts, which gets a
little confusing. I'm near the one on the coast of South Carolina. The
other Beaufort is on the coast of North Carolina. That's where
hurricane Arthur is currently heading.

Batten down the hatches, NC and all up the coast!

All the talk about pizza made me crave a cheeseburger. :-D

I haven't eaten at the Club in a month so I went over and had a burger
and fries. It wasn't served on a kaiser roll! Some other sort of bun,
toasted on the griddle.

The server asked me, "Are you enjoying the hurricane?" Not to make
light of people who may have problems with the storm but it hasn't even
sprinkled here today. People up and down the street were washing their
cars. I hosed down the windows that flank the front door (spiders tend
to spin webs in the corners there where it's shady).

Good burger, though. Cooked just between rare/medium-rare with swiss
cheese. Served with nice crispy shoestring fries.

I well remember Hurricane Andrew! I lived in S. Florida then. Thinking
about everyone in Arthur's way!

Yep, Andrew was a nasty one. I didn't live on the coast then but I
remember hearing about it.

Ah, how could I have forgotten Andrew. I've heard horror stories from
people I know who lived in Miami during that hurricane.

Sounds good. I love a good restaurant/diner burger and fries rather
than the fast-food variety.

The server, Marina, recognizes me when I come in. When I told her I
wanted a burger she said, "Just a bit more than rare, right?" :-D

The fries were a definite improvement. They used to serve what I'd
consider steak fries: thick cut and never crispy. I also noticed I was
not asked what kind of fries - regular or sweet potato? I guess they've
dropped the sweet potato fries, which is fine with me. They're okay,
but not what I want with a nice juicy hamburger.

This was infinitely better than any fast food burger. The fries were a
lot like what they used to serve at McD's. (I don't know what McD's
fries are like these days.)

I haven't had them for years, but McD's used to have the best fries for fast
food. I've never cared for restaurant burgers as much as Burger King and
McD's hamburgers. The restaurant type always seem to thick to me.

It was a thick hamburger but not some half pound monstrosity.

Remember where's the beef?

Oh yeah, I loved that old woman. I really like thin patties for hamburgers
unless of course, it's a hamburger steak.

I lived in Boca Raton (a few uprooted trees was about the worst there)
and worked at North Broward Medical Center, a large hospital at I95 and
Sample Road in Pompano Beach. We were a receiving center for many
hospital/nursing home patients that were evacuated from the
Miami/Homestead area. We had so many 'refugees' that had no clue where
they were and no family who knew where they were. At least they were
safe and eventually it was all worked out.

Me too. Thick & juicy, medium rare. The usual tomato, onion and
lettuce or maybe something different like roasted garlic, or mushrooms
or blue cheese, but not all three together. Now I want one. Damn you
Gary!

McD's fries aren't too bad. Those and from Wendy's are my favorite
fast food fries.

I do love the BK Whoppers and I have two coupons now for
buy-one-get-one free. I'll be sure to use those before they expire.
Also the BK Big King sandwiches - their version of Big Macs. I think
they are better than McDonalds. Have some BOGO coupons for those too.

It's a date! We're having the next best thing for dinner tonight:
steak. Heh. I cooked from the larder, so to speak, for the last few
days. After two days of hearty bean soups + carbonara for dinner last
night (which was influenced by the ham thread), we're ready for some
red meat. I'll bake a sweet potato and make a tomato-cucumber salad
to go with it.
