Perhaps you could find out what it really is then. You've described it as
portable and those do have to be vented outside.

Sorry about the loss of your rooster, I am sure is was awfully sad to
find him that way.

My sister had chickens, but she did not have a rooster, my mother kept
telling her that the chickens would lay more eggs if there was a rooster
around. I have no idea if that is true, I assumed it was a myth.

OK Julie. Even *I* have reached my limit with you here. (And back off,
Ophy...this needs to be said. Don't you dare defend her on this one).

A few weeks ago you were complaining about the heat. Now you are
complaining about it again. You can't even sleep at night as it's so
hot. The fans only blow hot air. You are going shopping often just to
walk around in an air-conditioned store.

Quit making excuses. So what if past years haven't been so hot. It's
hot this summer and it hot now. Your temps will be hot for another 10
days too.
http://www.weather.com/weather/tenda...le+WA+USWA0395

You can just remain miserable for the next 10 days and probably for
the month of August too or you can fix this problem today and be
happy. If the heat and humidity bothers you so much, just go buy a
small window unit and enjoy the rest of your summer. No excuse for
not solving your problem in a fairly inexpensive way. Put it in one
room and at least enjoy one cool room. To cool down the rest of your
house to a comfortable level, put a fan in the room doorway blowing
air into the rest of the house. You could at least have one
comfortable room.

If she was my daughter complaining in this way, I would break my foot
off in her ass. This complaint and all the reasons why she can't do
this is just not sane.

Enjoy your summer hot weather, Julie.

Personally, I am sick to death of the friggin air conditioner conversation
that now seems to have taken over every thread, including caramelizing
onions, Dinner 7/8/2014, and Fireworks. How many times does it have to be
said. Get some kind of GD air conditioner, or shut up about the heatwave, an
80 degree heat wave at that.

Lucretia said the free standing units *look* like dehumdifiers. They
are actually free standing air conditioners.

The unit loaned to me when my central air went out cooled off the
bedroom very nicely. That's all I needed. I can deal with sitting
around in the heat with fans running. I can cook outside if I need to;
it's not always cooler outside but there is a chance for a breeze.

I *cannot* sleep when it is hot. The free standing AC made it possible
to sleep comfortably until the central air was fixed.

You neglected to say if it was vented to the outside or not. I don't
remember my DD's being vented outside.

It was a loaner and I only used it for two nights while waiting for the
HVAC part to be delivered. It was supposed to be vented to the outside.
I didn't have the tools to remove the bedroom window screen. The
company that did the repairs and loaned me the unit weren't about to
test their liability insurance by removing and possibly destroying the
screen.

So, they told me to vent it into the living room and prop the bedroom
door closed to keep the cold air in the room. It was purely a temporary
solution but it worked just fine. All it was doing was blowing out hot
air into the unnoccupied rest of the house, and I had the windows in the
other rooms open anyway.

It was great getting a couple of nice cool nights of sleep while waiting
for the part to arrive. Before they brought the portable unit over, it
was miserably hot. I can deal with it in the daytime if I have to. But
not when I'm trying to sleep.

I would welcome 80 degrees. That would be a cold front. It's 91° right
now, a little cooler than predicted. Thunderstorms are expected out of
the southwest around 6PM. And I have air conditioning.

I have no idea what I'll be cooking for dinner.

OK, that is a sensible economic argument if you don't need it most
years. If you ever change your mind, it can be done.

I think those that don't have it are nuts. The AC cools you, of course,
but it does more. When the windows get fogged, the AC compressor will
run when the defroster is on to help clear the windshield faster. It is
as much a safety item as it is a comfort item.

I've not owned a convertible for about 35 years and maybe 10 days a
years I'd like to have one. The rest of the time, windows are up to
minimize noise and the climate control is set at 68 in the winter 72 in
the summer.

AC is standard on most cars these days,e ven lower end compacts.

I've seen so many ideas for dinner it's not even funny. What appealed
to me the most were
Taco Salad
http://chinesegrandma.com/2014/07/chopped-taco-salad/
and Chorizo, Chimichurri and Salsa Sandwiches
http://www.vintagekitchennotes.com/2...and-salsa.html
not that it's easy to find Brazilian chorizo.

Looking at the recipes, I think if you make both you'll be all set. But what's everybody else in your family going to eat?

Googling around, it sounds like it might be linguiça.

You can always convert a car air-con into an air compressor... but
then most of you would have no use for that, I suppose.
