what kind of cook is she? Does she cook a lot? Does she need big BTU's?
Ranges with burners with several rings that can be regulated are the best.
I'd go for industrial, but that's just me.

There are home style "industrial" cooktops these days. Can't name
them all but definitely stay away from Wolf (and haven't heard
anything good about Viking in years). They are living on their past
reputations. Kitchenaid has a really good current reputation. There
must be more, but that's the one I know about.

All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt.

At least one high BTU burner
A full grate across the top so you can slide a pot across

Piezo ignition, which is probably standard on all units these days.

A precise simmer burner and a wok burner. A separate broiler.
