The story of WW II is told differently in different places. I was in Europe during the 50th Anniversary of V-E Day, and was surprised to read in the UK papers that "Monty" had won the war single-handedly despite the bungling interference of that nitwit Ike. > Just as a matter of interest, my father > was there on D-Day, not that it matters, but he took his ship an > rescued Dwight D. Wikipedia has a nice story about how Ike gave the crew of Undaunted his General's flag, "autographed across two of the stars with an indelible pencil dipped in whisky." The flag is now in the possession of the National Trust for Scotland. |
