I paid for my 11yr old grand-daughter to attend a baking camp taught by
professionals at the local polytech. She had a fabulous time and her parents' freezer is now full of the results including a 7 strand challah! Some recipes used volume measurements but they emphasised that weighing is the better practice. In fact, they had to weigh all the ingredients for the bread, including the fresh yeast. She made pies, rhubarb/strawberry and lemon meringue, the latter with a torched finish, cookies, banana bread and several batches of muffins and cupcakes. She's looking forward to a more advanced class next year. Her enthusiasm was well worth the almost $600 cost. That's what grandparents are for{:-) Graham |

Baking camp sounds fun and educational. Those skills will last her for
life. She's a lucky girl to have such giving grandparents. Tara |

That's what grandparents are for{:-) >Graham A wise grandfather would have contributed that $600 to her college fund and gave his grand daughter baking lessons himself... nothing mentioned couldn't have been baked in a home kitchen by an amateur, and any recipe can be accessed on line within seconds. I think it would have been far more advantageous/valuable in every respect to have shared that baking experience together... by being an unthinking clod you tossed away a golden opportunity to spend quality time with your young grand daughter... you're not much of a grandfather, just a wallet... all you taught your grand daughter is how to become a JAP. |
