They're at Raleys, Safeway, S-Mart, that I know of in my town CA. I use them
every three or four months. They do charge a fee, but I don't mind.

Where are they located in the stores you shop in? Julie says they are
by the front door and I know for sure it's not there. I've never seen
anyone using one and no one I know has ever said they use one.

I got one at my grocery. Giant eagle.

What? They have gambling in your Safeway? Or do you mean the lottery
machines? They should be near those, the ATM, the Redbox...

I'd be willing to bet that your store has one. They're not really big and
they are easily missed.

She has been wrong on things many times before. No Boca burgers. Cooked
chicken breast is a new thing. No stores sell the large pasta shells...
I'm sure the machine is there. She just doesn't know.

Do you know what they look like? Like a vending machine
where you'd buy a soda. Pretty sure they're green.

That's why I choose the option of a gift certificate. The
fee is not paid by you.

If I get one for a place I shop anyway, what's the difference.

Possibly, but you'd think I would have seen someone using it by this
time if it was out in the open.

That's right. The vegetable burgers on menus here are a different
brand. I don't eat at the same chain restaurants you seem to eat at,
had never heard of that brand and I still don't see it listed.

> Cooked chicken breast is a new thing.

Yes it is. In fact, it was just a flash in the pan because they don't
package it for general sale anymore. I've looked everywhere I've
shopped and the only way to buy it is by asking the deli person. I
did it a couple of weeks ago and the deli person was so surprised by
my request that she had to ask her supervisor if she could sell me
plain shredded chicken. In any case, I don't want just white meat. I
want mixed white and dark.

> No stores sell the large pasta shells...

You still don't understand the size I was looking for. They are not a
standard grocery store item and they are *very* hard to find.

I couldn't think of what it was called, but it's gambling. Only
stupid people don't equate the two.

Time will tell. Maybe people don't need to count their coins around
here because they use it all for parking. We certainly do. Meters
are 25¢ for 8 minutes.

Hm. I visualized something round. Julie says they are small. I just
looked up an image of the Coinstar machine, yes they are green.
Something like that would be hard to miss if they are the size of a
redbox or even a lottery machine. Maybe they are kept inside the
customer service office. They need some way to count their tills
easily.

Well, I don't think they would fit anyone's description of small.
You'll just have to call them or go look for it. It's not something
the store would use to count their coins, I'm sure of that.

I can. That wasn't always so, which is why I used to get
amazon gift cards. It's going to depend on your store, if
they decide they want to offer that.

You can see what your options are before you dump in
your coins.

We have no problems with Woodforest National Bank, I have had an account
there for 20+ years. They do not charge for cashier's checks, money
orders, and like most banks, they do not charge for notary services. I
needed foreign currency on a couple of occasions, and I was not charged
for money exchanges. As a business owner, Woodforest has been wonderful.
We kept our Woodforest account when we moved to Shreveport, La., and
there was no Woodforest in sight, one did open before we moved, though.
The fees you must be talking about, are overdraft fees and we have not
had that problem. I feel bad if those fees are high.

Here, the one in Raley's is by the front entrance to the left and close to
Red Box, the one in Safeway is in the main store close to the lottery
machine and customer service when you leave checkout, the one at S-Mart is
directly to right of the front entrance.

I imagine it would be different for every store but I have never seen one at
the back of stores, just somewhere in front of the stores on the inside.

I never put quarters in the Coinstar. I keep quarters for different Sunday
papers out of machines since I'm an early riser and can go to outdoor
machines under cover of darkness without getting too dressed up. ;-)

The ones in our supermarkets are by the front doors. Seems to be common.

Well, they do take up a fair amount of space and they're bright green so I
just sort of think that if you're not using them, you don't really notice
them, sort of like rug cleaning machines in stores.

Where I am, mostly teens and young adults using them daily at one store.
When my kids were young, we saved coins and when we got a jar full, they got
to cash them in, but putting them in rolls in those days. They would have
loved Coinstar. :-)

I'll look more closely at the space where they put their lottery
machine. I think a redbox is there too, but I don't recall seeing
anything green. That monster would pop out like a sore thumb!

I never noticed. Then I wanted to use one and had to look for it. They are
everywhere but I tend to not notice them as I don't need them.

Probably about the same as Redbox. Perhaps a little smaller. The stores do
not use them! They are for customers.

(hit post in error - sorry)
It's a pain to count, roll, schlep to bank....

Paying with plastic eliminates the intake of change. The little I do get back from an occasional cash payment I try to use asap and keep it in circ.

I saw two women struggling with a huge jar of change at the Coinstar - they lost their grip on it, money went all over the floor causing a big uproar, and they got to pay 8% for their trouble. Yea, yeah, I know - it's the only way some folks can save.

Costs the gubmint a lot to keep making coins because of all the piggybanking.

There was a time when hubby would come home and empty the change out
of his pocket daily. He'd take the quarters and leave the rest in his
drawer. He wasn't saving it, he just wasn't recycling it.

I just noticed a Red Box as I was driving by. Although the Coinstar might
be as tall it is not nearly as wide.
