Default Cook something for me!

Daughter just texted me to say that they are at the airport and then the
next text was "Cook something for me!" Hehehe. Gonna head to the store
soon for the berries so I can make the cobbler.

She won't like the cobbler.

We could bet on it.... if we could find anyone who would put money on
her liking it.

Yep. I feel bad for her because I know she was likely offered little more
to eat for 10 days than pizza and fast food and she hates both of those
things.

Probably not. She didn't like the Marion berry pie that I made. I was
shocked to see Huckleberries for sale! But the bags were so tiny it would
have cost me about $21 to make a cobbler. Our Huckleberries here are out of
this world. They are not like the East Coast ones. These are a bright,
reddish pink and tart.

I don't know what's in Thai soup but seeing as how she hates soup, that
would be a no go.

For future cooking, buy her a large cookbook and have her circle what she thinks she would like. Then you can have at it.

It better be a cookbook with pictures because most teenagers,
especially those who don't cook, would have a hard time visualizing
the finished product.

I'm not a huge soup fan either unless it's thick or has a lot of
ingredients that give an illusion of thickness - then I'm ok with it.

A quality hot and sour soup is always welcome, and for thick, cream of
potato with bacon, chives and cheese - mmm...

And oh, chowda - yes!

No. I find stuff online and print it off or I copy and paste to my email
and print it off. She has found recipes that she thought she'd like but she
never likes the end product.

*sigh* These days nobody really needs to learn how to cook and she still
has no interest beyond eggs.

Because as you have said before you never recreate the recipe as it should be done. Therefore the end product is not what your daughter envisaged and fancied.

I most certainly never said that I never do. But there are a whole slew of
things that we can't eat, including seasonings. I love to read about food
and watch cooking shows. My daughter does not. Probably the last thing she
would want to do would be to peruse recipes.

Oddly enough both she and my husband loved the cobbler. I was the one who
didn't like it so much. I did like the berries. Just not the cobbler part.
You just never know. I can look at a recipe and like all of the ingredients
that go into it and yet not like the finished dish.

A cookbook with pictures could turn into something she has to use.
Otherwise she'll be watching a lot of Youtube when she wants to eat.

I guess Julie expects her daughter to live with her forever. So she can
pretty much order her mother to "cook something" without ever making an
attempt to learn something for herself. No books. No practical
learning of any kind. Mommy's there to do it for her.

All I can say is I doubt daughter will stumble onto Prince Charming who
cooks and will also put up with that Princess attitude.

When I was a teenager, if I had *ever* *told* my mother "Cook something
for me" [by the time I get home] she'd have said, DO IT YOURSELF. I
didn't think of my mother as a servant.

Not sure how my mother would have responded to that request, but
probably not very well. One thing she did, before she started drinking,
was cook, but we never placed orders.

We had a housekeeper, so I never saw my mother do laundry, iron clothes,
change the sheets, wash dishes or do housework. She was quite spoiled.
Us kids somehow learned how to do it when we grew up, though. Mother
never worked, but she kept herself busy being a social butterfly. I
still love her and miss her.
