Don't tell me there's no such thing as alfredo sauce. Butter, cream,
freshly grated parmesan. I added some steamed broccoli to the pasta then tossed it in the sauce. Topped with a little more parm and a sprinkling of garlic & herb Mrs. Dash. A nice, simple dinner. Leftovers for tomorrow or the next night. Jill |

That sounds great to me, I love a cheese sauce with broccoli, and an 'Alfredo' sauce with broccoli and pasta has to be good. |

An easy, quick-fix dinner. It was very hot here today, 100°F so I didn't feel like cooking much. Fortunately, I have air conditioning. I honestly don't know how people in this area (South Carolina, USA) managed 100+ years ago. Especially not when they wore all those layers of clothing. Jill |

No Mrs. Dash either. I prefer the basic recipe, as a side dish. -- Never trust a dog to watch your food. |

An easy, quick-fix dinner. You've inspired me, I think I will do something very similar tonight, a mac & cheese (using a vintage cheese) with steamed broccoli and just enough bacon to be noticeable. I have broccoli that needs using, so perfect timing. Thanks for the idea ![]() >It was very hot here >today, 100°F so I didn't feel like cooking much. Fortunately, I have >air conditioning. I used to handle the heat well in the tropics when I was younger, in fact I loved it at the time - but not these days. I've gradually moved further and further away over the past 20 years... can't go any further now, unless I go to Antarctica ![]() It's still winter here, although the past week has been quite warm, despite the morning frosts. Had a good year with the lambs, plenty born in the past 3 weeks and havent lost a single one this year. Spring is around the corner and I've been busy planting seeds today. |

I honestly don't know how people in this area (South > Carolina, USA) managed 100+ years ago. Especially not when they wore all > those layers of clothing. They likely had servants and summer kitchens. When I lived in Wichita, we mostly didn't cook anything when it was hot. We had enough vegetables from the garden so we just picked stuff and sliced it. Tomatoes and onions, cucumbers in vinegar water (ick!), lettuce, fruit, maybe some canned beans for protein or even Vienna sausages. We'd make popcorn at night. For some reason we did seem to have a lot of fried stuff. My mom always fried okra and also made fried chicken but the chicken was usually eaten cold. The okra was made seemingly randomly. It was sort of like, get it while it's hot because it won't last. But other than the frying, I don't remember much cooking going on. Not at our house anyway. My mom's parents had a farm and we would often meet up over there. The men BBQed stuff and made ice cream but other than that it was potato chips, fruit and raw veggies. We had to sit outside because she had 7 brothers and sisters who all had kids and there were her uncles and aunts as well. No room in the house for all. |

(I do salt the water for cooking the pasta.) I have no fear of salt, but sometimes it's not necessary. Jill |
