Finally got some big beefy tomatoes to ripen.
Thank goodness, they also have a big tomato flavor after all that waiting. So, for lunch we had what else but BLTs, we got some applewood smoked bacon from Whole Foods ... wasn't especially expensive, either. The slices didn't disappear when cooked. nancy |

Good tomatoes are definitely worth the wait. A plate full of sliced
tomatoes with a sprinkle of salt is a thing of beauty. I love tomato sandwiches with mayo on toast. Georgia cracker salad might be a new salad for you to try - dice tomatoes, mix with crumbled Saltine crackers, salt, pepper, and a little mayo. Some people add green onions and hard cooked egg. Some are huge, so heavy they fell on the ground while half ripe, but they are ripening nicely on the counter. Was not a good gardening year, went from spring directly to fall, no summer. |

Some people add green onions and hard cooked egg. Interesting! Thanks! I like all those things, it sounds like a keeper. nancy |

I also picked any that were touching the ground and they are biding their time on the counter. Now they are coming in pretty fast, making up for lost time. That doesn't include the cherry tomatoes that have been doing well for a few weeks. Tomato/pasta for dinner again tonight, with fresh bread from the farmer's market. http://tinyurl.com/lnfed9b nancy |

Was not a good gardening >year, went from spring directly to fall, no summer. It wasn't a good gardening year here either. The plants endured a very windy, cold spring and then summer arrived with 100F. I've had tomatoes for the last month , but not many for having 4 plants. Beans came in the last week in July and are not producing well now. The corn didn't get pollinated correctly. It was just blooming and pollen starting to fall when we had a week of really strong winds that blew the pollen out of the county. I've got some good cobs and a lot of sketchy ones. The pepper plants are just now thinking about blooming. The cucumbers have been decent. Janet US |

Today, we finally got a couple of good ones from my SIL and had them sliced for our dinner. Doris |
