Today is the ninth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.

I'd like some red beans and rice right now. Maybe a shrimp po boy
tomorrow. A snow ball would hit the spot after the pool tomorrow, too.

More good music from a New Orleans band post Katrina. Time for an Abita
Purple Haze.

And my poor dog is a survivor of Katrina. He was just a pup when he was
found after the hurricane.

You might want to take a cab. It's quite a walk from Parasol's in the
Irish Channel to Bourbon St. down in the Quarter.

@Tara- Have you ever read "Confederacy Of Dunces"?

And you haven't missed a thing, unless you're a huge fan of Ulysses.

It's been recommended to me a number of times, but I haven't read it.
Doesn't the main character have a Lucky Dog stand?

I beg to disagree. That is a laugh out loud funny book. One of my old favorites.

It's a damn funny book and it paints a vivid picture of life in NOLA. It
would be interesting to know what folks from the area think of it. They
might hate that book. The intro to the book could be another book in
itself and is a testament to a mother's perseverance, which resulted in
John Kennedy Toole winning the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction a decade after
he was dead.

I only read the first part because it's on my iPad which has been
missing for nearly a year. Hopefully, I'll find it and finish it off.

I used to stay at the Prytania Park back in the 80's. It was out of the
Quarter, close to St. Charles, between *Uptown and Downtown, and near a
number of restaurants like Parasol's and, my favorite NOLA seafood
restaurant, Uglesich's.

*Uptown had music venues like the Maple Leaf and Tipitina's

Unfortunately, like many after Katrina, Uglesich's is gone. They made the best.

We were on vacation the weekend of Katrina, and the hotel we were staying
at in Memphis was filling up with N.O. refugees as we were checking out,
headed for wilderness camping. We had a happy weekend on an Ozark creek, a tributary of the Mississippi River unaware of the horror. On the way back,
we stopped to get pizza, and heard on the news that rescue efforts were
being suspended to focus on preventing looting.

Good job, "Brownie." Great reaction to a disaster. Leave innocent, poor,
brown skinned Americans to die to protect property. The mayor of Ferguson
was a former leader of the Young Republicans. The extant GOP dishonors the
first Republican president with their overt racism.

What happened was that when Anthony and his wife wanted to retire none
of the family wanted to go into the restaurant business. I hope
Casamento's is still open.

Great propaganda effort, Nagin left school buses to submarine, Blanco
waved off the feds, and YOU ended up being a stooge for disinformation,
as usual.
