At least she faced that surgery with hope and I think that she never knew her death was imminent.

Read book "Bouncing Back" and see a different and hopeful side of her. Her life was not all roses, but her positive outlook never ran low.

I hope she's in a better place.

I just remembered something about the private Joan. I had a telephone dealing with her once on a business matter - you couldn't miss that voice and I never let on that I knew it was she. She was polite and businesslike, a different facet of her persona.

Pete, it is usual when there is a death associated. She suffered cardiac arrest there.

My mother had the exact same procedure done in 2011 at the age of 75. It
was treated like a full scale surgery. The center Rivers was in had no
means to resuscitate and probably should not have been doing this procedure
on people her age.

You's have to botch the hell out of a procedure on the vocal chords to
kill someone. I am not a doctor but I pretty sure there is no connection
between the vocal chords and the heart. For most procedures, the
anesthesia can be the dangerous part.

I know all too well about routine procedures going bad. I was having an
angiogram that I thought would rule out a coronary problem. I was well
sedated but awake when the doctor told be I had a blockage in my left
main artery. Not to worry. He said he could clear it out and put in a
stent. The next thing I heard him say was "Oops. Call a surgeon...
quick.... I've pierced that artery" If I had not had a blockage I would
have been released later that day. If they put in a stent I would be
released the next morning. I was released 8 days later after emergency
bypass surgery, and things were touch and go for a while. I almost
didn't make it.

The respiratory issue came first according to what I have read.
Probably from swelling reaction. The lack of oxygen caused the heart
issue. Apparently this clinic was not equipped to deal with such
issues.

Yes, while any surgery has risks, especially general anesthesia, it
seems that this surgery center was not properly equipped to deal with
emergencies at a minimum and may have been well below standards in other
ways.

Even the best doc can do nothing wrong and still have bad outcomes. I
recall when Kanye's mom died after cosmetic surgery, that one seemed to
fade from the headlines, likely because they found nothing had been done
wrong.
