Default Sweet hay shrimp

Dinner tonight will be what ever leftovers I can scrounge out of the
fridge, so I thought a nice little cold appetizer would help take the
sting out of what might end up on our dinner plates later.

I cooked the shrimp in sweet hay. I soaked the hay in water, then I
laid a handful of the hay out in a casserole dish. On top of that, I
placed some marinated shrimp, (I used cheesecloth, but that was
unnecessary) then covered the shrimp with the rest of the hay; covered
with foil and baked for about 10-15 minutes in a 375*F oven.
The shrimp had a bit of spice from the marinade, and a nice damp
earthy aroma (think how the earth smells after a rain) and sweet hay
taste. Winner, winner I loved it.

I served the shrimp with some octopus, prosciutto, sliced tomatoes and
sliced avocado. The dipping sauces were soy and sweet chili sauce,
neither of which I used on the shrimp, it was perfect as it was.

I gotta ask .....why?

Love shrimp. Been around hay most of my life and love the smell.
Yet, I'm not a cow and can't see any reason to impart hay flavor to my
shellfish.

Was this something you actually like or are you jes doing some
artsy-fartsy dish you ran across in some extreme cooking rag?
