Well, dagnabbit! The timer on my GE natural gas stove has gone kaput.
The entire (digital) control panel/board on its front has to be replaced to "fix" the well-used timer touch-button (not sure what else to call it?). I truly rely on the kitchen timer when I cook! I'd rather not burn down my home because I forget or get distracted when something is cooking anything on the stove, in the oven, or outside on the BBQ/grill! Now, I need a reliable kitchen timer that _does not_ automatically turn off by itself after a beeping for _only 60 seconds_! A common feature for these (useless, IMO) timers is they automatically begin a "count up" timer to indicate how much time elapsed after the original timer count-down expired. I want a timer that constantly beeps (the louder, the better) until it is manually turned off! I've searched Amazon (gotta love their "Prime" service!!) without much luck other than to find a single timer -- "ChefEPX" -- that fits the bill. For those who are curious, here's a link (and tinyURL): http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HKN5532/...I2ITCUJEITX7RS or http://tinyurl.com/mh5zn32 That's it - no timer other than this "ChefEPX" supposedly beeps continuously until it's manually turned off on purpose. It's US$20 (OK, it's $19.95 and that includes a recipe book - whoopee!!!! yawn). Heck, that's a lot less expensive than it probably is to purchase a new control panel board(?)! BTW, included below at the bottom is the stove's model no. ![]() likely(?), it's fairly simple to replace the control panel since it's a digital board (just a guess on my part!??) that's not much different than any 'board' (card) used by a desktop computer on its MB (motherboard). Just unplug the 'old' card, then plug in the new (knock on wood!). Will anyone share first- or second-hand recommendation(s) for an excellent and reliable kitchen timer that fits the bill, i.e., it beeps continuously until it's actually turned off by the user?? I'd really appreciate the input and suggestions. TIA and all that ![]() Sky GE natural gas stove/oven Model No. JGBP30BEH1CT (purchased new in early 2000s) website: http://products.geappliances.com/App...ku=JGBP30BEHCT or http://tinyurl.com/o9qk4at |

They aren't that loud and I don't think they sound for longer than a minute, but there are two of them so we can take them with us and have then nearby so we will hear than when they go off. The only thing they need is a long elastic leash to yank them back to their home when done, or a remote locator tone ;-) |

The clock on my wall ovens stopped working a couple of years ago and like yours, it will cost more to fix than it's worth. The ovens work just fine and the timer still works, so I'm not rushing out to replace it, but it's still annoying. I have small kitchen timers that I take with me when I need to time something, but don't need to be in the kitchen or standing over the BBQ. I don't know of any timers that fit your requirement because I've never looked, but if you don't want it to turn off by itself - I think you need something with an "alarm mode", not a simple count down timer. Try your smart phone first. If that doesn't work for you, some kitchen timers have an alarm mode too. http://www.taylorusa.com/kitchen/tim...and-alarm.html Here is a portable alarm that came up when I searched Amazon for "digital timer with alarm mode". It's big (4 inches) so it won't get lost and I'd never use it for the sounds so those complaints aren't a negative AFAIC. <http://www.amazon.com/Portable-Soothing-Sounds-Calendar-Relaxing/dp/B00A5V3KIS/ref=sr_1_16?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1413297173&sr=1-16&keywords=digital+timer+with+alarm+mode> Another idea is to buy a stopwatch. Stop watches work for me because they have a lanyard so you can wear them around your neck (no pockets required); they're lightweight, so it's not annoying to wear; they're inexpensive, they will count up or count down - and as far as I can tell, the beeper doesn't turn off until you turn it off when set in alarm mode. TADA! What's not to like? -- Avoid cutting yourself when slicing vegetables by getting someone else to hold them. |

Most PCs have a timer feature. If the timer on your stove module went kaput check that other functions haven't died too (oven thermostat, self clean, etc.). I had to replace that module and it was expensive, almost $500, about half the cost was for the GE techie to install and *program* it... you cannot program the module yourself, the techie arrives with a portable computer that he entered your stove's model a serial number into, then it ran for about 15 minutes, and with several prompts. If you buy the module and attempt to progam it yourself and you ruin it you are out of luck and out of over $200. |

Oooooh, lucky me. Mine only beeps 7 times and then blessed quiet. I use it more than the stove timer unless there's something in the oven which HAS to be removed. I wonder if anyone has let the stove timer beep until.....what do you think will happen? I'm not about to test it tho. I have a metronome which is supposed to be programmable to turn off after a minute or whatever you want, but I still haven't figured that feature out. Still dealing with learning all the features on a cordless phone too.(gnashing of teeth.) |

Alas, my MW's timer is a poor substitute when it comes to its timer "feature." When the count-down is complete, it quickly and very briefly beeps only 3 or 5 times and that's it. Heck, most of the time I'm in the 'other' room away from the kitchen, so I usually cannot hear its beeps - so much for that option :/ Heh, the MW is only used to heat water or milk to make a morning mocha and is definitely not used for 'proper' cooking = ![]() When it comes to my cell phone, it's an ancient "flip phone" (approx. 6 or 7-years old), and it is not "smart" (no "data plan). It does have three alarms, as in alarm clock(s), that go off at set times, but that's not so handy for a 5- to 15-minutes timer - oh well. The 'alarm' has to be specifically set to go off at a set time, e.g., 6:50pm, etc. Do-able, yes, but far from convenient as a "count-down timer". I hope that makes sense. Hence my search for a suitable 'count-down' timer. Hm, perhaps I could get an Android app to install on my little tablet. That's a workable solution ![]() Thanks for the suggestions. Sky |

It'd definitely be oh-so nice if I had a "smart" (cell) phone with a data plan <VBG>. Mine is a very old-school (six-plus years or older) flip phone! Truly, I do not need, nor want, to pay for any data usage! It's rare for me to be far from home. The old "flip-phone" is used only to make long distance phone calls for the most part, nothing special. Yeah, I have a microwave, but it's "timer" feature it sub-par. It quickly beeps 3 or 5 times that's barely audible, and then that's it! Although, perhaps I can get an Android app for my tablet. That will probably work well enough ![]() Sky |

It just doesn't make sense to use that big oven on the stove for one or two baked potatoes, know what I mean? However, I'll check out the range oven to make sure it works. There is a large pork butt in the freezer that's just begging to get thawed, prepped and roasted ![]() As some folks have already mentioned, there are free Android apps for smart phones (I don't have or need one) and tablets. I do have an Android tablet, so that seems a good route to take ![]() the Google Play Store and there are tons of free timer apps. Now to choose one and see how it works out. Sky |

That is one timer I did look at and read its description and features. So far, I think I'll go with a free Android app for a kitchen timer. If I have to go outside and require a 'timer', I'll just use the alarm clock on my rather old flip cell phone as a reminder. Sky |

However, your tablet has a clock - so you should be able to use it the same way you'd use your smartphone (if you had one) as a timer. I have a Nexus 7 and this is how I'd set mine 1. Open the Clock app. 2. Touch the Timer icon in the top left (for me) corner of the screen. 3. Use the keypad to enter an amount of time (the first number moves to the left as you enter more numbers), then touch Start. 5. The timer beeps when the time is up and it'll keep beeping until you touch Stop. Visual instructions are here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37UTCd3RH0E -- Avoid cutting yourself when slicing vegetables by getting someone else to hold them. |

There is no fixing this crap anymore. A new stove is not an option for me. The loss of its timer is not critical, and I can easily make do without it.
