Default soup tonight

Cleaning out the refrigerator, freezer raiding, (wishing I had some
cilantro to sprinkle over it) soup. Oh, yes! It was good. Too bad
I'll never recreate it. Oh, well. I'm happy anyway.

It's a kernel of roasted corn.

Yummy, I see some pretty good looking vegetables in there. Love those
kind of soups.

That's the thing about some of those "use everything" soups, etc. You never
can recreate them as a rule, but they're good while they last.

Slumgullion - now that's a word from the distant past! I'd call my
garbage soup that, because it sounds so much fancier, but I won't
remember until it's too late.

Glad you enjoyed it. Of course you aren't supposed to be able to
recreate it.

It's perfect weather for soup. What a smart way to clean out the fridge
and freezer before Thanksgiving.

Slumgullion is an actual recipe with some specific ingredient
requirements, unlike mustgovian

It's a stupid word that several long gone rfc posters thought was
clever and I won't use.

It's a stupid, cutesy word that some people thought was clever.
Webster records words found x number of times in print. That's it.

Apply whatever meaning works for you. Another one I can't stand is
"used meat".

I think it's spelled without the t "musgovian".

Used mean is sale meat from the mark down bin. Why they decided "used
meat" was appropriate is anybody's guess. It conjures up images of
prechewed food for me.

Oh dear, what a lot of words upset you <g> I picked up the habit of the
'used meat counter' from here I may use the term 'mustgovian' too)

They are just words you know?

In my house, we called it "old meat", I thought that was a more suitable
description.

Mustgovian sounds better to me than "garbage soup". You don't want to
know what sort of images that conjurs up in my brain.

I call it what it is, sale meat; but I just say meat 99% of the time.

I don't like that term at all either, I call it reduced in price meat.

No one said they caused harm. I said they were stupid and childish.

I purchased a lot of really good looking reduced meat today, everything from
ribeye steaks, to boneless ribs, to lamb stew meat. Last week, it was just
awful looking, but I think I hit it just right today. They usually put a
rack with bags of reduced veggies out after 10:00 A.M too. and I'm not
usually there at that time, but today I was. Nice squash, tomatoes, eggplant
etc. for .69 a bag. I love when that happens especially with the lamb for
the stew. :-)

I have loved shopping the clearance racks since I was 16. I call it
"clearance meat"

The stores here rarely reduce things. I do see old bakery items and shelf
stable things. Once in a while a package or two of meat. Never any
produce. I have gotten cheap cheese and other things at Target. But they
are far enough away that going there more than once a week isn't an option
for me.

S-Mart where I am usually does the reduced vegetable thing just about every
day after 10:00, my friend shops later like that and gets some pretty good
stuff, I'm not usually out in the stores that late in the morning. They do
the reduced meat about 3 times a week, sometimes it's good and sometimes
not. Here, they never reduce bakery goods and things like that, the
Salvation Army truck picks them up a couple of times a week.
