Ds1I, my meatloaf recipe, from BH&G, calls for fresh bread slices soaked in milk, so I think fresh would
be my first choice, although I have used dried if I don't feel like getting the FP out of the cupboard. I usually have some of those canned dry crumbs around. N. |

Most recipes also require the addition of tomato or vegetable juice, milk, egg and other wet stuff. Plus the meat is wet. The bread is going to get wet anyway. |

In one case, the person poured milk over fresh bread and let it soak in before adding it to the meat. I like it like that, as well as with dried bread crumbs. I think it's just a matter of choice. I don't use bread in my meat loafs anymore, but both are fine IMO. Cheri |

However, long ago when I was newly married I used a recipe I found on the box of Shredded Wheat cereal. If I recall correctly, it said to soak two of the 'pillows' in milk and then add to the beef. I think it was good and I'm not sure why I didn't keep using it, probably wanted to experiment. If Shredded Wheat is still around, I may try it again. Nellie |

When my daughter was young (pre-school age), her favorite toys were "My Little Pony" dolls for years. I still have a box of about 100 of them up in her old bedroom closet. Anyway, at every meal she would bring along her favorite pony to the table. She would set it beside her plate and put one mini shredded wheat in front of it. That was a "hay block" for the pony to eat. ehehh It was very cute. |

You can make a fake apple pie from Ritz crackers that tastes like a real apple pie. I'd think old fashioned oats would work best in meatloaf.

Cow brains could transmit mad cow disease, that's 1 reason they quit selling beef insulin. There is no mad pig disease.
