Do you want to replace light or dark corn syrup? Golden syrup will
probably work best for light. Golden syrup with just a little dab of
treacle for dark.

IN what proportions? One tablespoon for one tablespoon?

Could honey be used for a similar effect?

Incorrect, unless he's talking about making simple syrup with white
sugar. That still wouldn't correlate to corn syrup. Neither would
honey. You don't say what you want to use corn syrup for so it's
anyone's guess.

He's talking about an Asian pork recipe. You don't need the exact
chemical composition, all mentioned will work as a substitute for
light corn syrup. In fact, if the recipe is old enough - honey was
probably the original ingredient.

What are you trying to make? That makes the difference in what to
replace it with.

Sugar and water. If you need an invert sugar, honey. A lot depends on what you're making. You can substitute sugar for corn syrup in a pecan pie but it probably wouldn't be a good idea to use honey - that would be too sweet.

I have a more modern recipe for shoyu pork that would be easier and fit
today's taste better. It's dead simple but I want to find it to make
sure. It's a killer recipe - will post it later.

I guess it depends where you live. I buy it in fairly large
quantities at Costco.

Your sig indicates you are in the UK (could be wrong) so I found
this link:

http://www.tesco.com/groceries/produ.../?id=268886433

And here are more tips on where to buy it:

I actually don't know! It is not something I have ever bought or looked for

the most well-known brand of corn syrup in the US is Karo and it no
longer contains HFC. It does not cost more because of this. I would
guess that other brands no longer have HFC. Ophelia is located
outside of north America.

Google and Wikipedia are your friend. High Glucose Corn Syrup is corn
syrup that has undergone enzymatic processes to convert some of the
sucrose to fructose to make it sweeter tasting.
