Chili powder is a blend, a pretty specific blend; ancho chili pepper, cumin, garlic and Mexican oregano... hot pepper and salt are optional. |

The shichimi togarashi on my counter has no garlic for example. Nor does a store brand I got when I ran out of Mexine blended chile powder. Pretty sure the mexine didnt either but i don't have the jar to check. Carol -- |

Putting a tiny bit of tomato paste into chili for the glutamate is fine. Putting in a whole can is questionable, but that's a style thing. BUT, "several plum tomatoes and one beefsteak, 2 cans El Pato tomato sauce, 2 cans some off brand chopped tomato and chilies (like Rotel), 1 can tomato puree," that's not chili, but chili flavored tomato sauce. Then later, in another post, you add that your slob ass added canned beans with all the glop from the can. --Bryan |

All of the green, yellow and red bell peppers surprised me, I do not put those in chili. I use Gephardt and ancho chili powder, neither one contains salt. Some people may not be aware, but El Pato tomato sauce is ~hot~, so avoid that if you do not like spicy food. I have been buying mine at Dollar Tree. Becca |

And if you still think that is valid and applies to us all, then I just do not know what to say. Obviously it helped the person who wrote it. I'm not pretending. I don't like the taste of garlic. If there's a little in something with other seasonings then it's okay. Garlic alone? Don't like. Lots of garlic? Not only don't like but I will get stomach pains. |

Yes. Main stream medicine doesn't refer to anything as "leaky gut". I do feel sorry for those who suffer from whatever that problem is. But do I really think their food is leaking out into their body? No. |

Husband loves super hot food. I like a little heat. This was just a little bit more than what I would usually prefer but not so much that I couldn't eat it. So it's all good. |

I buy a lot of > things at Dollar Tree. I used to add chiles but I got the El Pato stuff on clearance and liked it. I intend to try to work the Walmart food store into my shopping trips more often. I forgot to check the price of their refried beans though. Otherwise their canned veggies and such are on par with or cheaper than Winco. And they are fairly close to where my mom and brother live so I won't have to go out of my way to get there. |

Julie, eat some canned red kidney beans and test your bg, some other time do the same with canned pintos. I once had beans and franks using red kidney beans and the next am my fbg was 108 which is high for me.

And your BG after is meaningless if you don't know what it was prior. As for me, 108 is perfectly in range. I am supposed to aim for 90-130. |

But it needed more so I added a heaping Tbls of Penseys chili powder... and there ya go, a big bowl of Chili Hash, adorned with Heinz red. I think to be called chili it must be eaten from a bowl. I will be doing roast beef hash more often. |
