Can't find this anywhere. Even Publix, who was the last in my area to stock this, albeit only 2-3 bricks of it, has stopped. Dern. That was one of my easy, quickie meals. Possibly I was the only guy buying it and the other bricks were tossed or given to food banks.

I'd write them, but I believe I'd be wasting my time.

I've been looking for years now. Albertson had it once - expensive! - but
haven't seen it since then. I have a feeling we'll not see it again.

I think I got my limburger gene from my maternal grandmother - no one else
in my family likes it that I know of. When I was a kid I had to get her
some at the corner grocery often.

Have you tried a health food store? I've been meaning to try the
limburger brand they sell.

Likewise. I discovered limburger after tasting "havarti tilsit", a
style of cheese Safeway used to sell in large quantities. When they
stopped selling it, it was like it had never existed. "What's havarti
tilsit", they'd all parrot.

Much later, I ran across bierkäse, German beer cheese, which was
almost identical to the havarti tilsit I usta buy. That led to more
stinky cheeses, but I've yet to ever see "havarti tilsit" again nor
run across any info on that weird naming.

I'll ask if they can get it. But, they tend toward non-animal products, so maybe not.

I found out today that a man who goes to my gym buys a block of limburger every week. Boy, is HE in for a surprise. Maybe we can write a joint letter of complaint.

Unless..... Publix is just out of it and the stock ppl aren't aware. Maybe I just didn't hit it right, but that gal sounded like she knew what was up with the cheese section.

I remember tilsit too - it used to come in a variety package of cheese wedges, like Laughing Cow. I'd always rush my sib for the tilsit and gruyere.

Can't hurt to inquire. One of the things Publix advertises is if they
don't have something they can order it for you. That doesn't mean
they'll stock it again on a regular basis but it can't hurt to ask.

I'm not a big Havarti fan, but maybe I'd like Tilsit. Wikipedia tells
you how it got the name. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tilsit_cheese

I'll forgive you this time for confusing me with La Bove.

I used the term 'guy' as the waitstaff does in restos ("What can I get you guys?"), even if it's a group of bluehairs.

I think maybe my best bet is to collar the dairy manager.

Chalet Cheese Co-op in Monroe, Wisconsin is the only American producer
of limburger. They don't sell retail. Hefti Creek (<hefticreek.com>),
physically located near Chalet Cheese, does an online mail-order retail
business. They have two Chalet Cheese limburger offerings: fresh (1
month old) limburger at $18/lb. and aged (3 months old) at $20/lb.
Didn't look hard enough to find typical shipping/handling charges.

I wouldn't want to eat any cheese that was 2 or 6 moths old.

I was in another Publix yest and there were about 6 blocks on the shelf. So now I'm wondering if each store can pick and chose what to stock. I'm just going to slip a note to the dairy manager at the first store and see what happens. Maybe I should've bought 3-4 blocks, as the pull date was end of April.
