Which model did you get? This one shows the drip tray being plastic,
but the grid looks like SS wire.
http://www.simplehuman.com/wire-fram...tainless-steel
Others say they are steel frame so I'd assume the rest is other material.

Sorry you are disappointed. Does it state where it was made?

I got the mini. It's the only one that's dimensions state it will fit
IN my second sink, and it does perfectly with little room to spare.
And yes, the model pictured in your link does indeed have a SS grid in
the bottom, but not the mini! :-(

And I just went and looked on the box: "Assembled in China"!! ****ING
NAFTA and MalWart!! :-(

No. And there's not sufficienrt pics on their website to really see
clearly how it's made.

The one I bought will crtainly suffice for a while, but wil lnot last
as long or be as easy to clean as if it were made out of 100%
stainless steel. Plastic sucks for cooking stuff. Degrades, becomes
harder and harder to clean as it ages, etc.

Only the drip tray and silverware holder is plastic, otherise it's all
SS wire. No matter, only a pinhead would pay $60 for the POS. There
are much nicer dish racks of all wood for 1/3 that price.

Just get what they have at Target or Ross and replace it every few
years.

Even yer local thrift shop probably has a half dozen dish drainers in
fine condition. Mine did and they rarely have much of anything
useful.

All dish racks use a plastic drain tray... most folks buy
Rubbermaid... they are inexpensive so replacing in 5-10 years is no
biggie. Can even buy a no brand generic at the 99¢ store. Were I to
use a dish rack I'd have one of all wood, the bamboo ones are nice,
and they fold flat for storage... but I drain dishes onto a clean
towel, dry with another clean towel and put them away. I don't use
enough dishes to need a dish rack, and when I do use a lot dishes I
use my dishwasher. I think a dish rack at the side of a sink just
wastes valuable prep space.

Still way too much for a rack of wire coat hangars... a folding bamboo
rack makes more sense, when not in use easy to store.

It always drives me nuts when I visit my daughters house. She was
trained as a child to use a dish drainer basket to let the dishes dry.
Now that she has her own home, she just piles the freshly washed
dishes up on this thing beside the sink. I drives me crazy!

I saw a nice Kitchenaid dish rack at Costco for 20 bucks. It was a beautiful, contemporary, design. I was looking at the box and my wife told me that we already have that one. Cool, she was right. It's a damn nice dish rack!

Of course, I don't need to look at no stinkin' box to see where it was made.. Obviously, it's gonna be China. Everything is made in China these days. China is a magical place where a company can send money to and not have to deal with the headaches of making widgets themselves. For a little money, they get a finished product ready to fill orders. It's an offer that few can refuse.

NAFTA (the NORTH AMERICAN Free Trade Agreement) had little to do with
it. TPP (Trans-Pacific Partnership) is coming - so be afraid. Be
very, very afraid. NAFTA was nothing compared to what this will do to
jobs, goods and services.

Not being able to truly look at the item in question is a major reason
why I dislike shopping on the internet. I am guessing your kitchen
situation is too tight, but I don't use a dish drainer - I use large
bar mats (two of them) next to the sink.

Her house, her rules. I hate the sight of a dish drainer, it's butt
ugly. John has the right idea putting it in the sink, but then you
lose half of with the dish rack.

Everything is made in China because China has a glut of highly skilled
workers in the manufacturing trades, and since there are so many
people who need those jobs they work cheap. The US has no skilled
labor apprentiship programs anymore... once the present aging skilled
work force dies off it's really gonna be all over for the US... a
society cannot survive with all desk drivers/pencil pushers. Better
teach your grand children how to pick produce, mow lawns, and do
laundry.

In 10 years a skilled machine operator will be the guy putting the

My dish drainer tray is plastic and it's easy clean and hasn't degraded and it's at least 10 years old. Made by Rubbermaid.

You don't have to wait that long.

Service manuals for consumer electronics no longer come with schematics,
because service technicians only have to know which pc board
to replace.

Huh? Who's going to build the can machines? Better, who's going to
build the tooling that makes the cans? BTW, there is no such thing as
a skilled *operater*... any monkey can be trained to stamp out
widgets.

Not even a good looking or functional dish drainer... and $60 for a
couple three wire coat hangers. I don't even have any wire coat
hangers, those go right in the trash. I only have nice wooden coat
hangers so if I used a dish drainer it would be of wood. Anyone who
would use that wire dish drainer has no class other than low.

$19 vs. $25 is not "way too much" more, Sheldon. It's just a little
more. And how would you sit a large washed pot on that bamboo
contraption?

My large pots wouldn't fit on any dish rack... I dry all my pots
immediately with a towel, I dry everything immediately with a towel, I
hate a pile of dishes sitting out for hours... I'm not lazy like you.
The bamboo racks are far more functional, they fold flat so are easy
to store out of sight, but I don't even want that, I dry everything
right away so I need no dish rack. I don't want anyone doing my
dishes because if they put them away I'll never find them.

So what, ss wire is cheap, and looks cheap... looks like the crap at
IKEA. I don't know where people got the idea that stainless steel is
valuable like gold.

Initial disappointment aside, I'd like to hear after you used it for a
week or so. There are cheap grades of plastic and better, more durable
grades. If it works and lasts, maybe not so bad.

Sometimes they don't even got that far - we've gone past replacing pc boards and moved into just replacing the entire product.

Got a nice "American made" dish rack/drainer for $29.00 CD.

http://www.sterilite.com/SelectProdu...25&sect ion=5

Works perfectly.

Not made in China, this company has been around for 75 years or so.

It's working very well. I didn't use any of the widgets that came with
it, just the dish drainer. No need or room IN my sink for the movable
drain. I just wanted a good high quality dish drainer that would last
and be easy to clean. Hence my disappoinment with the convoluted
plastic base thing. I'd rather have had a stainless grid.

It's what I have, so it's gonna last.

It's as strong as steel (in fact is IS mostly iron) plus it does not
rust or tarnish.

What material do YOU prefer, Sheldon? In the kitchen?

Or do you just shoot down everything to make yourself seem cool? Kinda
like Bryan's narcississtic behaviors?

Wood is impossible to sanitize properly. I took and passed the food
service sanitation certification class and test with flying colors!
Back when I worked in the donut shop.

Remember, I'm a food service professional! Or was.
