True, that's always been the case. Close to 20 years ago (wow, has it
been that long?) I was talking about cornbread. I typed it "corn bread"
with a space. The person replying to me most likely purposefully
misunderstood; he started ranting about corned [rye] bread. I've never
had corned rye bread in my life!

I recall on one of Bourdain's shows in South America he was eating a
soup made from them.
Most likely, they ere for the dog though.

My son won't eat them. Maybe he would if I served it without the bone
and told him it was something else.

I should correct myself about it not being part of my childhood. It was
my wife and her mother who introduced me to oxtail stew, but I used to
have oxtail soup when I was a kid. It was canned, but it was one of my
favourites, that and Scotch broth.

You probably have if you regularly eat rye bread. Corn rye has no
corn in it. You might have picked up a loaf of Jewish rye or a loaf
that had cornmeal on the bottom crust.

I know what corned rye is but no, I've never had it. The only rye bread
I've ever bought was "party rye"; I used it to make appetizers for a party.

We're having a heat wave (relatively speaking); it'll be 32 F and calm
tonight. (It's a lot warmer than yesterday morning's -20 F.)

I'm grilling a lobster tail for tonight, and some chicken
breast for leftovers. The chicken will be served on top of romaine
with balsamic vinaigrette, on sandwiches with chipotle mayonnaise,
and anything else that I get inspired to make.

How dare you say that!!! You must be the kind of person who needs a
moderator, or your cooking skills are just abominable, not only that but you
must be one of those people who dares to make something from a package, use
a can of soup, a cake mix, etc., and omigod, off brands no less. Also, if
you microwave something, or add an ingredient to a recipe that actually
makes it better, you are CHEATING. LOL, just joking about your cooking, but

Some in other newsgroups are for sure. I actually heard about it a long time
ago in another group and lurked for a long time before posting. Also a

Have you ever really seen someone post a recipe or talk about something they
made where someone didn't have something negative to say about the
ingredients, the picture, the technique etc.? I'm sure it happens, but not
often.

I had heard about the hostile RFC long before I got here. Yes. When
my one favorite ng died, I was invited here and also warned about it
being hostile.

I came here eventually knowing full well what I was getting into.

Same here. People have moved onto other things online, and newbies
don't want to know about Usenet. If it isn't a bloated, garish web

It's called corn bread for the same reason as corned beef.

We are in a similar situation. It has been down around -17 to -25 C for
the past week (-13F) Today it warmed up almost to freezing. Time to
head out to the dog park before the cold returns. Spring is in four
weeks????

My riding instructor had a horse whose name I forget, but I remember
that her husband called him Elmer.

Still doesn't mean that's what I was talking about. Nor have I ever
bought or eaten "corned bread". I don't like RYE BREAD. BTW, corned
beef doesn't involve cornmeal coating.

Which is exactly why it's becoming pointless to post about food on
this food group.

Usenet is in its death throes. Very few ISPs are even hosting newsgroups
on their own servers these days. Young people are simply not interested,
they have many alternate forms of communication.

It behooves us to ask what the horse thought about that.

Ever seen the movie "Pollyanna" with Haley Mills? After she goes to live with her rich aunt she's out delivering food packages to the sick. One of the packages is a jar of calves foot jelly and the recipient really screws up his face in disgust/disappointment when he tastes it.

These were middle aged people but they were still not interested.

Oh my god! Don't tell me we'll have to inhabit a discussion area that
young people aren't interested in. That's practically the definition
of death--when young people don't care what you're talking about.

Oh the horror, the horror...

My first experience, albeit second-hand, with a prism. I'll remember
it always.

How could I have forgotten that? And the rest of the movie?

We get to hear from them often enough. March Break is coming up soon and
I am sure we will hear be visited by the usual bombing runs.

It IS! Even 35 year olds are considered geezers... even more
unbelievable, the 35 year olds think of the 25 year olds as "kids" who
need a different management style... lots of pats on the back and some
hand holding.
