Mostly bones and feathers. And they were cute, too. (I also never ate quail.) I really didn't understand the point in shooting such small birds It would have taken a lot of those doves to make a meal for 4 people. And no, there was no pie crust involved. ![]() Jill |

I have satellite radio in the car so I can avoid all the music and right wing over the air stations. Satellite also has music by decade and genre, for those who want to avoid hip hop and rap. -- A kitchen without a cook is just a room |

I mostly buy whole spices, I don't > buy many ground spices but when I do it's Penzeys... there's a huge > difference between Penzeys ground ginger or cinnamon and the bulk > store attic dust... Same here. Also the prices are not bad at all. My local buddies now make a group run every 4 months or so. By doing that, we can get it in bulk and I split it up here. Last order was 115$ worth, much of it split 4 ways from the bigger bags, a few were single orders of smaller sizes. This was from 4 fairly significant scratch cooks with families to feed. We definately beat the prices of box store stuff on almost everything and the few we didnt, are things you don't see here like Rogan Josh. We aimed to get more of anything we were just about out of, or a 4 month use supply. We all estimated a 50% savings based on what we got. In addition, we filtered our spices, tossing any past use and splitting any that was still usable but we had too much of. We called those 'freebies' like I had excess Fenugreek others wanted to try and so on. 2 of us make our own bread so needed seeds used for that. 3 of us cook at least some level of Indian curry, all of us do some level of italian and so on. That said, pumpkin pie is my 2nd favorite although the last few years I've opted for sweet potatoe pies...same spices and method and tastes about the same to me. |

Sitting in my kitchen one morning with my future wife, a quail came walking by the window outside, bobbing his cute little head. I ran into my bedroom and grabbed and loaded my .22 cal pellet rifle. I went out the front door and to the corner of the house. I braced the gun against the corner and did a head shot from about 30 feet away. The girl in kitchen was watching the bird and (she said), all of the sudden this bird did a backflip and landed on the ground dead. I got the perfect head shot. So I took the quail inside, gutted it, took off the feathers, deboned it and cooked it within 30 minutes after it was alive. We both got about 2 bites of meat and that's all. Not worth all the trouble. |
