Our dinner tonight was a braised lamb shank (one was enough for the
two of us) with parmesan polenta and grilled broccoli. A couple
glasses of Cab to go with. We scored some South African figs the other
day at the grocery store, so for dessert I made a port & honey
reduction to drizzle over the figs, along with a wedge of camembert
and a few walnuts.

It was a really good meal, but quite pricy. (The lamb was $7, and the
figs were $4, plus when you add in the cost of the other stuff the
whole meal was probably around $20.)

The chicken looks like it has a nice crust considering it is skinless.
I like thighs.

that chicken looks really good. I haven't seen marinated chicken
pieces available in my stores.

You made yourself a fancy restaurant meal at a fraction of what you
would have had to pay if you'd eaten out, so pat yourself on the back
and feel proud!

There is a local restaurant that has lamb shanks on their menu. The
first time I went there the menu price was $14. They came with garlic
mashed potatoes and a medley of sauteed seasonal vegetables. A package
of three small shanks in the store was running around $12-14. It was a
no brainer for me. It was like paying someone a buck or two to cook,
serve and clean for me.

I'd think one would need to/WANT to their own marinating.

I am wary of any marinated meats or fish I see in the grocery store.
Aside from once having some over priced marinated salmon fillet portions
that were not good, I am concerned about the freshness.

You go right ahead and think that.
