They'll be serving "beverages", soup and hot dogs from 11AM - 3PM. Wow,
doesn't that sound fantastic?

Meanwhile, I'll be cooking lamb shanks. Happy eating, everyone!

I know people who would love the hot dogs. Not me. I still have no
appetite so eating will not be happy for me. Nor am I making a big deal out
of food tomorrow. Husband is being provided food at work tomorrow. I will
make Angela whatever she wants from what we have but she's still sick too.
She's making a cake right now. Am hoping she won't need too much help
because I'm not in the mood for baking. I just did another pan of those
oatmeal bars. That's one thing that does taste good to me.

Hot dogs? Awesome... <rolls eyes>.
Sounds like they're not putting the cook on for the day.

>Meanwhile, I'll be cooking lamb shanks. Happy eating, everyone!

Now that is awesome. I'm having marinated pork spare ribs and nothing
else... I just got home after a long day and I'm too tired to cook a
proper meal.

That's so out of character for you, usually you're the most
undiscriminating omnivore I've ever known!

So, you are both sick... again??

Not again. Still. Makes 2 weeks and a day now for me. She hasn't been
sick for as long. Husband had it first. He still has the cough. This flu
is just no fun.

No. But she did make it with very little help from me and it looks nice.
Not sure if it will get eaten. She had put the trimmed scraps in a bowl but
then didn't feel like eating them.

True, that. IIRC they have one of those hot dog roaster things like you
see in some convenience stores/gas stations. Like this:

You'd think they would have ham sandwiches too for a touch of tradition.
I guess it is a service for those that don't cook at all. They have
minimal staff and still feed the locals.

I do know a single guy that would be there with adult beverage from 11
to 3. His entire social life is at a bar.

I'm guessing it's a nod to the golfers who want a drink when they reach
the proverbial 19th Green and should maybe have a bite to eat.

They only have to pay the bartender(s) and have minimal staff to clear
and clean the tables. The hot dogs are self-serve so no waitstaff
required. The soup is kept warm in crock pots. It's likely yesterday's
soup of the day, whatever that happened to be.

We've probably all known someone like that at one time or another.

the lamb I'm cooking. I bought a small bottle of Pinot Noir for the
splash of light red wine I need to deglaze the pan. Red wine (the
tannins) bothers me so I don't drink it. The rest of that bottle will
likely sit for a long time. Maybe I can find a use for it in a
marinade. I'll have to do some searches.

I know I'll regret asking, but she "put the trimmed scraps in a bowl"?
What does that mean? What trimmed scraps?

With plenty of brown sugar I hope! The saving grace of oatmeal, maybe.

And you should make two pans. One with chocolate chips and one
without. I'll bet that you will start making them all with chocolate
chips once you try it!

I guess you don't make cakes? She made a round, two layer one and it puffed
up quite a bit. So I told her to trim the bottom layer to make it flat.
You simply run a bread knife across the domed part and then you put the
trimmed cake down on the cake plate so it doesn't rock around. That's cake
making 101 right there.

I have made plenty of other cakes where I had to cut the cake into pieces to
form a certain shape and sometimes there are little bits leftover. Not the
case here but it really floors me that you would even ask such a thing.

I've baked plenty of cakes in my life. They were baked in round tins
and did not require "trimming" before icing. Sure, I know about
trimming them if they are for presentation. But who on earth would she
be presenting it to? You? LOL

I have always trimmed them. And it's not just for presentation. I'm sure
that you know that you must put the two flat sides together so the top
doesn't crack. If you get enough height on that cake, it's going to be
rounded. So one of two things would have to happen. Either you put a big
ring of frosting around where the cake will sit so it will sit flat, or you
trim it. *shrugs*

Flu certainly isn't any fun. You could do things to help the
situation, such as eating properly and helping your immune system.
Toughen up and push through how miserable you feel, go outdoors and
get some physical exercise of some sort. I know you 'can't' and won't,
but I'm just putting it out there regardless. You post here a LOT
about your lifestyle, and it's inherently unhealthy in nearly every
way.

Please explain how getting outdoors would help? And normally I do eat
properly. Or as properly as I can given all of my medical problems. I
can't push through anything since I have Fibromyalgia. I have the standard
type as opposed to whatever type Cindy Hamilton's husband has. When you
have that, the pushing through pain will only cause a flare. So I do best
to avoid that. AFAIK there is no way to get over this any faster. I
unwittingly gave it to my mom and SIL. My first symptom was loss of
appetite and a migraine. I don't normally get migraines of loss of appetite
is pretty common for me so I really thought nothing of it.

My lifestyle is not unhealthy. I see my Dr. regularly and I follow his
advice.

You speak the truth. I've never trimmed the top of cakes because I like weird-ass, lop-sided, cakes with frosting rings. My daughter has a nifty cake saw thingie that looks like it would work real good. I should bake a cake just to try it out. As an added bonus, I get to eat the cake top. :-)

Me too. I like to think I can split a cake in two as well as anybody although I have missed the mark sometimes. Actually, most times. Ah shucks! :-)

Pour it into an ice cube tray and freeze it. When frozen, put the
cubes into a ZipLoc bag. It keeps quite nicely.

I do this with leftover wine, coconut milk, and other stuff that you
only require a small amount of for each recipe. I actually keep a
dedicated ice cube tray (separate from my "ice" ice cube trays) for
stuff like this.

I would love your menu! When I was a child, I used to enjoy picnics
where we would cook hot dogs and ham patties for occasions such as the
4th of July--but not Easter, as far as I remember. I *certainly* can't
imagine going to a Pub for hot dogs.
