Default Red Yeast and Rice To Lower Cholesterol

I was wondering if anyone here takes, or has
taken red yeast and rice to lower cholesterol?
I've had several suggest to me that I should buy
some and take to help lower my cholesterol. The
doctors have prescribed five different kinds of
cholesterol meds to me over the years, but I've had
bad side affects from all of them, so I can't tolerate
Statin drugs, and I don't want to try anymore.

I read about the red yest and rice on the internet
today, but the side affects for some people are
very serious, as can be toxic to one's liver.
I also didn't realize it was illegal to buy
in the US? The ones that suggested it to me,
have had good results from it, but I am leery!
