Hello? > No... if I hadn't inherited it I would likely still be living in my very nice apartment in west TN. Where, by the way, I did not experience annual rent increases for the last three years I was there. Everything was included in the rent and of course, as a renter, I knew that. If the neighborhood had declined I might have looked for another place, but as it is I wound up here, helping my mom. > Let me go "here" now..... you evidently haven't worked since you moved > in there. That would be incorrect. I worked as a receptionist at H&R Block in 2010. Surprise! I'm working now, part time, in the office at a tire/automotive shop. > So they obviously left you a good amount of inheritance Yeah... and I wound up paying the taxes on a rather large annuity because Mom didn't list all of us as beneficiaries. I could have kept it all to myself but I didn't. I gave them their share then got hit with the tax bill, which they refused to help me pay. Meanwhile, I suspect my oldest brother has blown through his inheritance. He's given up his ISP, allegedly because they raised the rates. (Even here in the boonies I have more than one ISP to choose from and could bargain for a deal.) He was a computer technician by trade. He'd get antsy if he didn't have access to a computer. When he visited here in 2009 not a day went by without him asking, "Can I use your computer?" Now, he uses the computer at the library... sometimes. It's free Wifi. He also doesn't have a telephone. Well, his girlfriend has one but she gets it free through some Medicaid program. I suspect he's somehow managed to run out of money. > Face it, Jill. You won. You have retired Nope. I have a pretty good handle on how to manage money. I've also invested rather wisely. I don't store all my eggs in one basket. I was sorry to read about Mia showing obvious signs of age, BTW. I know how it feels to think about losing a beloved pet. ![]() Jill |

Mine side freezer is about 14X17. 8.75 cu. ft. according to the sticker on the inside of the door. That takes into account adjustable shelves. I can fit quite a bit of food in that small side freezer. Jill |

Not necessarily regular prices but it goes on sale almost every week. I have NEVER paid more than a dollar per pound for chicken and that is the meat that I eat mostly. Sheldon is speaking the truth, I'm sure. Perdue Oven Stuffer roasters....89 cent/lb max (on sale) Last week my regular grocery store had leg quarters on sale. 10lb bag for 48 cents per pound. Funny (to me). Seems they didn't sell enough of their stock last week. This week they have packages of thighs or drums (3lbs or more) on sale for 99 cents per pound. Sounds like they took their overstock, cut them in half, and are now selling them for over twice the price as last week. I buy large when they go on sale as it's so often. I never pay premium price. You need to watch the week sale ads. |

Roasting chickens are on sale for under $1/lb at some store around here nearly every week... and often some other name brand, but who do yoose think store brand chicken comes from, the big name company under whatever label, same as the dozens of store brand toothpastes Colgate packages. The small fryers here cost about $1.39/lb, but I don't bother with those pigeons, not worth the dirty pan. There are far more chicken farmers than there are chicken processors... Perdue etal. have processsing plants all over, they buy live chickens from dozens of chicken farmers, packaged under many labels. |

I'm also paying for living in the middle of a hot employment market where median rent of a (very small) 1-bedroom apartment is $3460 and rising. I was down at DD's in San Jose this week and noticed the Safeway closest to my GD's preschool is even more expensive than mine is. No ocean views there... just lots of people who can afford to pay cash for homes in the million dollar(s) range and then pour remodeling money into them. Seriously! -- sf |

Even the Super Walmarts near here sell mostly whole chicken. Even though chicken is very inexpensive I don't buy much, if I buy four roasters a year it's a lot, once I've handled raw poultry I lose my appetite for it. |

You're so full of BS, it's oozing out your ears. And where in the hell did your mind go with this one? When Jill left her apartment in Memphis to move in and take care of her mom, she walked away with nothing. Whenever (if ever) she walks away from her inherited FREE house, she will walk away with a few hundred thousand dollars. Are you also so clueless as not figure that out? whoosh! G. |

First time you've ever mentioned a job except for the old days before Dataw. Are you two just pulling my chain here? You got a free house, Jill. So sad that you don't appreciate that fact. They should have left it to your brothers since you feel this way. Your one brother was even mad that he didn't get part of it. SF is just an all-around idiot so I pay her no mind but I've always thought better of you. Let me make this simple for you. When you left your apartment, you got nothing from that situation. Whenever you leave Dataw, you will walk away with a few hundred thousand. Tell me again how you didn't get anything for free. good grief...this whole thing is so silly. |

What a spoiled princess. They should have willed the house to >one of her brothers instead. They would have appreciated it and Jill >still could claim that she got nothing. Wasn't the original issue whether it was free to live in her house because she had inherited it? And that arose from Julie not understanding that nothing is free, someone, somewhere pays for what appears to be free. In this case, it costs Jill to live in the house. She pays property taxes, lawn care, to get the house painted, get a new roof, new carpet, etc. These costs would be included in a rent payment if she were renting. Julie's idea that she got a 'free' lunch at her mother's facility is wrong. It was free to Julie, but the resident's of the facility paid for her lunch by paying their monthly charge. Julie just doesn't see that there is cost involved in everything, that somewhere someone is paying and someone else is getting charged to cover that payment. She doesn't understand that we all are paying for her SSDI. Janet US |
