Local brands are Cookeen, Trex, and White Flora. But in the larger sense, butter, margarine, lard, and vegetable shortenings are all shortening in that one uses them to make a "short" dough. Crisco has pushed out the other American brands such as Spry and the part-animal-fat Swift'ning. Crisco used to contain trans fats, but I believe has been reformulated to exclude them. |
