Apparently shortenings like Crisco are somewhat unimagimatively called
"white fat" in the UK. Local brands are Cookeen, Trex, and White Flora.

But in the larger sense, butter, margarine, lard, and vegetable shortenings
are all shortening in that one uses them to make a "short" dough.

Crisco has pushed out the other American brands such as Spry and the
part-animal-fat Swift'ning. Crisco used to contain trans fats, but I believe has
been reformulated to exclude them.

I'm pretty confident that "pudding" implies "dessert" in this
context. So have whatever dessert you like.

The meat was probably boiled, though.
