Maybe not the best dish for such hot weather but making it only involved my
buying fresh cilantro and jalapenos, both of which I could have done without as I do have dried ones but... I do have one leftover hamburger patty and 4 leftover hot dogs and buns for both. So they can have a choice of a chili dog, chili size or just the chili. I did use Rotel, tomato sauce and jarred salsa. Otherwise from scratch. Even the dried beans. And yes, I could have done it totally from scratch but the point was to use some things up. And my new freezer arrived. It is a 2.1 cubic foot upright. Brand is Supentown. It has been resting upright to settle the fluids inside, plugged in and is up to temp. now. Just waiting for husband to come home. I will get him his dinner then go to the store to fill it. It won't hold a lot but I did put all of my hard blue ice in it. That frees up the top of the little fridge for the medical ice and whatever food my husband might want to put in there for just himself. I wound up just giving him that fridge because he kept having issues with the big one. Like not being able to find anything. Heh. Anyway... I will start myself out with a bag of purchased ice and then when it's gone, I can make some myself. And it will give me some space for extra frozen treats since they are being eaten at alarming speed. I just hope the store has been able to restock. People are buying the stuff like mad. It's 84 degrees in here. Only reason I haven't gotten the swamp cooler out yet is that it is supposed to cool off on Sunday I think. |

To give you a perspective, the the shelf is about half full of blue ice. The solid type. I might be able to put some smaller ones in there or other small things. I bought 5 boxes of frozen treats. Two of the boxes were slightly larger. Not overly big boxes. Not like one of those big assortment packs. The bag of ice took up the whole middle shelf. That about fills it up, although I could repackage the ice and also put some small things in there. Alas, Albertsons hasn't restocked. The treat of choice is sherbet. I buy the little cups and AFAIK, Albertsons is the only store that sells those. And since the big change over, there aren't any other Albertsons around here. Guess I will take some blue ice with me tomorrow when I take my mom to the one near where she lives and hope they have some there. This one really is nice in that it doesn't take up much floor space at all. And it fits under the existing, fixed wall shelving in the garage. I got it at Amazon. It's a Prime item and one of the few freezers that was is stock and available for immediate shipping. Many others were out of stock or take 3-5 day shipping. |

As it is, it is jam packed in that tiny garage. I had to move my supplements out there because the system I had been using wasn't working. I had been keeping them in a big lidded bin. Now they are on a shelving until out there where the old freezer was. But I was able to shove the shelf over a bit and slide the new freezer in. |

A freezer that size isn't worth plugging in, it's smaller than a dorm fridge, that freezer is half the size of the smallest freezer in the smallest fridge freezer top freezer... my old 18 cu ft basement fridge freezer has a 4 1/2 cu ft top freezer and it's small. |

At first I was thinking 'why bother that small' but I can see it if it fits a cubby just right and fits a need. We did well in Japan with an extra freezer that was about 3ft tall and 2ft wide with a front opening door. It was used to double as a night stand by the bed (very quiet operation). -- |

It's keeping a very good temp. so far and it got to below zero in less than two hours. |

Bounded by a top ledge, she needed that. Its just like we got an odd fish tank today. It's to fit an old TV type entertainment center. We needed it no taller than 22 inches and wanted 36 inches wide. Hard to find. It was a shop for the space alloted item. -- |

Folks who are not deprived on space sometimes don't understand a smaller unit can be what you need. Our old Japan one was probably 4cubit foot. We'd used it in San Diego in an apartment then later in Virginia and while we sidelined it once we got a big chest freezer for the house in Virginia, we shipped it to Japan when we moved there for 7 years. It finally died in Japan after 14 years of faithful use. -- |

No. Another lie! There was a class action lawsuit for the old freezer because it was sold as being energy efficient and it wasn't. I was supposed to get yearly checks. I got one check for something like $12. AFAIK I haven't gotten another one but since I no longer have the freezer, it's all good. As I said... I have reorganized the garage and I moved some things out there that had previously been in the dining room and in the way. So I have no room for that size of freezer nor do I really need one that big and I hated the chest design. I had actually wanted one that was smaller still because of the cheaper price and 5 star rating. But it is not currently available and will ship when it is. I went that route with some cat food because the price is so much cheaper than anywhere else. I have waited over 6 months for that. And I just got a notification that one flavor has shipped. Still waiting for the other. Not such a big deal on the cat food since I can buy it locally. So far I like this freezer and it seems to be the right size for our needs. Even though the chest freezer was small for a chest freezer, it was larger than we needed and most of the time was at least half full of ice packs from my insulin. The only reason I got that was at the time, it was the *only* chest freezer I could find in any store. I could not find any at the time that would ship. Things have changed since. Less than a year after I got it, everybody and his brother started selling them and smaller ones still. Albertsons even had a super special where you would get free frozen food if you purchased from them. Now whether any of those could have resided in the garage, I do not know. This one can. You're just not happy because I am happy! Everyone loved my chili and we like the freezer. |

Here's a heads-up for anyone that qualifies for a class action suit. Do NOT join it. If they win, you get almost nothing but you can recover lots of lost money if they do win and you opt out and hire your own lawyer to sue separately. One credit card I used years ago got caught posting payments late...after the due date. They were increasing interest rates due to the "late payments." Once they got busted for this and went to class-action. The lawyers won and got most of the money that the company had to pay out. This heinous thing they did ended up costing me a couple of thousand dollars in penalties and increased interest rates. The class action suit was won and I got a check. For $0.67. Yep...that's all. 67 cents after over 2 thousand dollars in overcharges and increased interest rates. G. |

Class action suits are a great way for lots of people to pay a law-firm big money. In the end, it's here's your miniscule check, yes, that's what you get after being split between X-number of plaintiffs. Of course we took our cut right off the top... I can't see anyone actually suing (much less a class action suit) over a freezer being mislabelled as energy efficient. For all we know there were two guys in the warehouse who were given pre-printed labels and told to slap them on the freezers. I would need to see proof the company, resaler, whatever, purposely misrepresented the product before awarding anyone any money. Jill |

I also didn't know that it had been advertised as energy efficient. I just wanted a freezer and it was the only one I could find. Something similar happened with my husband. He got a check in the mail from...Jiffy Lube? I think. And there is something pending for something that we use. Sprint? Frontier? Not sure. One of our phones and they were overcharging. |

I don't. I had a larger chest freezer prior. I did not know that it was not suitable for use in the garage. Not all fridges and freezers are and this clearly was not. But I had no other place to put it so I tried it. It worked for perhaps 2-3 years. Problems started. It finally just quit and no point in trying to repair it. I think I only paid $230 for it. I did without another one because I could not find anything I could afford that would work in the garage. Then I wound up rearranging the garage and putting things out there that had been stored in the dining room because I wanted that room back! I had been looking for a small freezer because someone here has a lot of medical problems that were required frequent use of ice packs. Because I like to keep blue ice for my coolers, we needed more freezer space for the medical packs. The new freezer has solved that problem. I wasn't sure if I could put it in the garage but it was small enough that I could have forced it in somewhere else in the house if need be. As it turned out, it will work in the garage. Only cautions are to keep it away from heaters and sunlight. |
