Default OT concert tickets

What a ripoff!!! My son had offered to take me to a Mark Knopfler
concert for my birthday. He is playing at the Niagara Falls casino in
October. He was going to try to get tickets when they went on sale
today at noon. He called the other day to suggest that I try to get them
too in case he had trouble. As it turned out, we both had the
ticketmaster site open at noon and tried as soon as the clock turned.

Sold Out!!!!! seconds after they went on sale ??????????

He tried another outlet. There were some tickets available.
Ticketmaster had listed seats as costing from $97 to $147.. but none
available. Another agency had separate seats, but there price was $175-
$350.

Knopfler is IMP one of the world's greatest guitarists, but I am not
going to pay that much to see him play, and I sure as hell am not going
to get sucked into that scam.

He's playing near me this fall. 40 tickets left. Cost?
$200 - $615. And that's from the box office.

Concert tickets have gotten stupid expensive over the past 20 yerars
or so. I'm an old guy now, and I remember when concert tickets at the
Kiel here in STL were $4, $5 and $6 for most acts, and for the really
premium acts $4.50, $5.50 and $6.50!! I even saw KISS once for $2.95!!
About 1975 I think.

Check again the day of the show, last minute tickets released,
desperate scalpers. Or show up twenty minutes after the show starts
and see if the scalpers will deal for less than face.

Some think that the resellers are in fact Ticketmaster in disguise.
Concerts frequently sell out in seconds and the conspiracy theory gains
traction.

I think there are few things that would give me more pleasure than
seeing scalpers lose lots of money.

Thanks. That is one of the all time great guitar solos. It is a solo on

I predict we'll be hearing/seeing more from this talented young man.
Apparently, he's an insanely talented bluegrass player w/ far ranging
six-string interests. Here's his rendition of a Paul Simon's
Graceland, the song which originally snagged my astonished earholes:

It's very nice to see young musical artists enjoying what is (to us

OMG, vampire twins! No refection in the mirror!

The guy on the left looks like a street musician I just
saw on Trip Flip.

They're terrific. Funny that there are always some thumbs
down votes on these videos. Can't win them all.

The best concert I ever saw was the Outlaws when in college, I was about 3 rows from the stage, much too loud. Think green grass and high tides.

According to Josh and friends, anyone can do it. All you need is a
Canon Rebel T3i and a Zoom H2. I'd have to add "talent" to the list of
technical requirements.

That's because there were no PA systems of any size back then like we
have now. It was the Beatle's first concerts in the U.S that created
the demand for amplification beyond the paltry 20 or 50 watts that was
the norm at the time.

My first 'real' concert was a big deal for me. I was about 10 y/o at
the time, and completely infatuated with Suzi Quatro.

Luckily for me, my Dad's best friend worked in management at EMI at
the time. He not only arranged for me to go to the concert, but to
meet her both after the concert and at a later gold record
presentation for her 'Quatro' album. I got lots of kisses and hugs
from her both times, and Suzi being my 'dream girl', I was pretty
pleased with all that

That would have been a great experience (especially in hindsight), it
was a sad day when Chapin went way too early. I've heard of many very
famous bands/artists who still performed with even *less* of an
audience than that

You were there too?

My father stood in line to get tickets for me and a couple of my
friends. If I remember correctly, CHUM FM or another radio station was
giving out roses to parents who got tickets for their kids.

And I was the teenage girl screaming the loudest. :-)

My big music moment was in around 1968. My dad was in the military,
and was posted to Germany. Us underage kids used to go out to the
clubs drinking. One night, we went to a place where there was an
unknown band called the Yardbirds playing. My girlfriend and I invited
the guys in the band back to her house the next day. They actually
showed up, and we served them egg salad sandwiches and lemonade for
lunch.

It was only many years later that I realized we were hosting Jimmy
Page. I don't know if he liked our egg salad sandwiches.

Wow. I vote this the coolest old music moment so far. :-D

Back around 1977, I found myself on the stage (behind one speaker
stack) while Aerosmith performed only 10' away from where I was
standing. It was awesome until I finally heard someone yelling at me
from behind in a RAGE. It was the stage manager and he was yelling,
"GET THE HELL OFF THE STAGE OR I'LL BEAT THE F***ING CRAP OUT OF YOU!"

So I said, "oh ok...sorry" and I got off the stage with no injuries.
heheh It was an epic moment for me though as I loved the band.

The last concert I was saw Kenny Rankin. It was a great concert! He died shortly after that. I guess we lucked out because I would have felt awful if I blew off my last chance to see him play.

Besides getting their contractually agreed-upon free tickets to
distribute to friends and VIPS, the performers themselves usually also
purchase blocks of tickets in order to resell them at a profit to
third party sellers. Between the peformer hold, the promoter hold, the
local media hold, and the fan club hold, the venue hold/employee
pre-buy, the number of tickets available for purchase at the moment
Ticketmaster opens sales can sometimes be rather minimal.

My second concert experience (back in the 70s) had me as the second
person in line at the box office, only to discover that the first
fourteen rows had been sold out even before the box office opened. I
quickly learned that the best way to get good seats at shows is to
cultivate friendships with the concert promoters and box office
employees. No more standing in line, excellent seats always.
