Mesquite charcoal shortage widespread?
I asked on our local group about apparent shortages. I can think of three
stores by me that have been out of it for weeks. Two of these cater to volume users but are open to the public. Here it is usually the most available form of lump charcoal, not molded briquets. |

Lowes? Maybe. But it figures because we do have a burn ban here. Nobody can use it. |

Just use Hawaiian kiawe charcoal if you can't find mesquite. |

I imagine it's going to be the same thing. It's a popular fuel for cooking in some commercial eateries. Fer instance, this place where my daughter used to work: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hs1YCxMFYYk I don't think the place is there any longer. |

Someone in a BBQ group said he didn't use mesquite this weekend because he had a Hawaiian theme going and was sorry he didn't, so I was able to recommend that he find Hawaiian kiawe to use. Hee hee. My suggestion is that he make some lomi lomi salmon. My wife's aunt is visiting from Washington state and I gave her a plate of the stuff and she thought it was great. She used to live here in the 50's and she said with a twinkle in her eyes "I'll bet you thought I didn't know what this was." That would be true. OTOH, she says a lot of stuff with a twinkle in her eyes. She's the most twinkling person I know. :) |
