Default Canned pear shortage?

Someone in this house likes the little cans of pears to eat with cottage
cheese. I normally buy them at Albertsons but two different stores were
out. Totally out. They had other sizes of canned pears and the small cans
of all other fruits. I remembered that I had bought some at Big Lots. I
went there today and they did have them but in heavy syrup. The eater
prefers in juice or light syrup. Other stores such as Walmart do not carry
the little cans. Yes, I know I could buy other sized cans or the little
plastic cups. And I have. But this person wants the little cans. Have you
seen these in your area?

If you'll tell me what "little" is (how many ounces), I'll look when
I grocery shop tonight.

If you mean canned pear *halves* that can be stuffed with cottage
cheese you won't find them in small cans. Walmart has diced pears,in
small cans:

Try amazon:

Buy larger cans and a single reusable plastic container.

Come on. You are walking into the trap. That is a very good suggestion,
but now you will have to hear why that won't work.

She says "this person" won't accept anything other than the little cans.
This "person" is old enough to shop for herself. She has a car. If
she wants little cans of pears let her drive from store to store to find
the specific size of canned pears she wants.

There's no way she would actually open a larger can of pears and store
them in the refrigerator. There is always a reason she can't or won't
do something.

Likely the "person" wouldn't eat them if they came from a larger can and
were put into a different container. That would make too much sense.

It makes too much sense. Heaven forfend you buy a larger can and then
break it down into smaller portions. There's going to be a reason it
won't work.

Sorry but her daughter is not a Princess. I never would have told my
mother: I won't eat that unless it comes out of a smaller can. Really?!

Why doesn't this "person" shop for her own food? She has a car so
there's no reason why she can't also do her own grocery shopping. Maybe
if she didn't have Mommy running all over town looking for those tiny
cans of pears she might learn something. Such as: You don't always get
what you want.

She might even learn how to cut up and eat a fresh pear.

Pears in biog cans are great. Pears in little cans suck. Ewwwwwwwwww.

Never mind they come out of the same processing plant. The size of the
can is critical.

Given the cost difference, I'd have done that all along. Small
containers of anything tend to be much more expensive.

Remember those special small cans --not flattish like tuna-- labeled
"diet", back in the 60s-70s? Turns out the incredibly high price
(2X-3X) on those things was due to the cannery having to literally
build the can run, each yr, then tear it down. So few were actually
run, it was an inconvenience to have this short run diet thing set up,
permently.

Know what the "diet" part of it was? They turned off the salt
dispenser.

No...have not found them or want them.
Why not tell your anonymous person to buy his/her own cans of pears and
make your life less complicated. You should learn to say NO or I can't
find them and make it final? You are never going to satisfy everyone
in your home and especially those anonymous ones we can't identify
but who live there with you apparently.

Yes, in my area they are sold for .49 a small can, pears and peaches at Buy
4 Less.

It's a very stupid suggestion especially since I already pointed out that I
know they come in different sizes. They want that size and only that size.

Well, that's you. I grew up pretty much getting what I wanted. If I had

You know nothing of our situation here now Jill. I will not post of it. I

We do eat fresh pears. I asked a very specific thing. You don't have the
answer, so shut up. You'll never be a Princess.

Shut up Jill! I didn't say who this person was. And you don't know our
situation here at all. Nor am I going to mention it here. I merely asked
about the small cans of pears. You are nothing but a mean, bitter, little
old lady and you're not even old yet!

Did anyone here ever stop to think that the cans might be going elsewhere?
To a place where it is far easier to dispose of a can than it is to rinse
out and bring home a container? No. I guess they did not.

For crying out loud. Obviously nobody here knows. So why bother replying?

Thanks! I usually stock up when they are on sale. And a large can would
just be a waste of money in this house as they are eaten sporadically. It
would be like when I was a kid. Open a can of pears, put the rest in the
fridge and by the time you want them again, they are moldy. Plus my fridge
is so small that I don't like using it for leftovers that may not be eaten.

What waste? The only waste is you throwing away the other half of the
contents of a slightly larger can.

I am jealous. We have no such store. 40 cents at Big Lots when they have
them. Usually 89 cents or $1 elsewhere when in stock. I just checked the
Dole website. They are still available. Maybe someone bought a lot for a
summer camp or some such thing.

Why do you post this stuff if you want everyone to butt out? We don't
actually care if your daughter or your husband will only eat small cans
of canned pears. You're the one inviting commentary.

Wny bother posting? Most people don't seem to have the shopping
problems you do.

Gee, it's difficult to find things in cans.

You're the one who made the post so all replies are valid... you don't
have to like the replies but this is Usenet so tough titty. Tell her
to stuff a seckel into each of her bra cups, in a few days they will
be ripe and juicy, her seckels will be ready to suckle.

LOL, Jill...I am older than dirt, was married in 1962, and don't remember those "diet" cans,
either.

Prolly the first shot fired in the diet wars. I remember seeing them
in the canned veggie section. Smallish cans, about the size of a V8
individual serving can (6-8oz?).

She didn't realize that you are smarter than her. Some of us here can
put two and two together. Then there is the sisterhood of stupidity who
act as her chorus.

Sometimes you just can't get what you want. If this was my family, the
answer is "tough crap, this is what they have, take it or leave it"
Don't want the larger size? Great, you get nothing and I save a couple
of bucks.

If you prefer to spoil your family and give them every whim, that is
your choice. Makes for a tough life for their future. Good luck.

Divide the can into two zip lock bags. No need to bring the bag home.
Problem solved.

I'm not going to buy the larger size? Why should I pay more and then either
wind up giving it away, uneaten, or have to throw half or more of it out.
That makes no sense.

I always get what I want. It might take awhile but I don't settle for less.
You can do what you want.

Ding, ding, ding! I don't have to follow what you say either!
